The role of Bcl-xL and nuclear factor-kB in the effect of taxol on the viability of dendritic cells
Mi-Hyoung Kim, Hong-Gu Joo* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 2호 2 99-103 (5 pages)
increased the number of viable DCs and the expression levels of a representative anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-xL. Furthermore, mobilization of the p65 subunit of nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) from the cytosol to the nucleus in DCs was observed by confocal microscopy. An inhibition assay using N-p-tosyl-L-phenylalanine chloromethyl ketone confirmed that NF-kB was intimately involved in the effects of taxol on DC viability. In addition, we investigated the mechanisms of taxol enhancement of DC viability... -
Decrease in intestinal endocrine cells in Balb/c mice with CT-26 carcinoma cells
Kwang-Ho Cho, Hyeung-Sik Lee, Sae-Kwang Ku 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 1호 2 9-14 (6 pages)
The density of intestinal endocrine cells, in Balb/c mice with colon 26 (CT-26) carcinoma cells, were examined immunohistochemically at 28 days after implantation. After CT-26 cell administration there was a significant decrease in most of the intestinal endocrine cells (p < 0.01) compared with the control group. The significant quantitative changes in the intestinal endocrine cell density might contribute to the development of the gastrointestinal symptoms commonly encountered in cancer... -

lyses of the trunk muscles, degenerative muscle fibers and the scattered spores were observed. The sporophorocyst (SPC) contained several spores with a variety of shapes. Some SPC were disrupted and the spores in the SPC were scattered in the muscle tissues. Macrophages existed near the scattered spores. Electron microscopy revealed special structures such as sporophorocyst containing various developmental parasitic stages such as meronts, sporonts, sporophorous vesicles and spores. -
Attenuation of ischemia-reperfusion injury by ascorbic acid in the canine renal transplantation
Jae-il Lee, Hwa-Young Son, Myung-cheol Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2006, 제 7권 제 4호 12 375-379 (5 pages)
This study examined the effects of ascorbic acid on the attenuation of an ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury after a canine renal transplantation. Eight beagle dogs were subjected to a renal auto-transplantation followed by the administration of ascorbic acid (treatment group) and the same amount of vehicle (physiological saline, control group). Blood samples were collected from these dogs to perform the kidney function tests and the invasive blood pressure was measured in the renal artery at... -

Biocompatible silica-overcoated magnetic nanoparticles containing an organic fluorescence dye, rhodamine B isothiocyanate (RITC), within a silica shell [50 nm size, MNP@SiO2(RITC)s] were synthesized. For future application of the MNP@SiO2(RITC)s into diverse areas of research such as drug or gene delivery, bioimaging, and biosensors, detailed information of the cellular uptake process of the nanoparticles is essential. Thus, this study was performed to elucidate the precise mechanism by which... -

Recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) stimulates the proliferation and migration of epithelial cells in human cell culture systems and animal models of partial-thickness skin wounds. This study investigated the effect of a topical rhEGF ointment on the rate of wound healing and skin re-epithelialization in a rat full thickness wound model, and verified whether or not the rhEGF treatment affected both myofibroblast proliferation and collagen synthesis in the dermis. When rhEGF (10... -

The aim of this study was to evaluate the cicatricial repair of perforating cornea in rabbits, by using the N-butyl cyanoacrylate adhesive compared to the 910- polyglactine thread suture through macroscopic and histological assays. Corneas from 18 adult rabbits were perforated and subsequently occluded with N-butyl cyanoacrylate synthetic adhesive (right cornea) or by separated single points using the 910-polyglactine thread (left cornea). The rabbits were divided into groups containing three... -
Escherichia coli O157:H7 adherence to HEp-2 cells is implicated with curli expression and outer membrane integrity
Sang-Hyun Kim, Yong-Hwan Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 5 119-124 (6 pages)
CR-binding negative (CR-) colonies occurred spontaneously within the population of CR+ isolate. The CR+ EHEC showed massive aggregative adhesion pattern, whereas the spontaneous CR- strain showed typical localized adherence on HEp-2 cells. Electron microscopy confirmed highly curliated bacteria in the CR+ EHEC sample. Interestingly, the curliation disappeared in a msbB1 and msbB2 double mutant derived from the CR+ EHEC. These results suggest that the compromised outer membrane integrity caused ...
