lesions on C. annuum while milder symptoms and delayed mosaic symptoms were appeared on the systemic leaves on N. tabaccum. RT-PCR analysis confirmed the presence of PVX RNAs on both inoculated and systemic leaves in all three plant species tested. Our results indicated that PVX replicons were efficiently expressed PVX RNA in at least three tested species. Further investigation will be needed to elucidate the mechanism of PVX replication, translation, movement and assembly/disassembly processes.

the bacterial detection; the pathogenic bacteria were observed in pellet from the fruits with over one canker spot with below 2 mm in diameter. In field assays, the increase of phage population (120%) on surface of the fruits related to the disease development one month later indicated that the bacterial pathogens inhabit on the surface. The procedure will be effectively used for detection of only living bacterial pathogen on fruit surfaces of Satsuma mandarin and for the disease forecasting.

Overall sequence homology of RNA3-encoded two viral proteins (movement protein and coat protein) revealed high similarity (75.2-97.2%) with the known CMV strains. By sequence analysis with known representative strains of CMV, Ca-P1-CMV belongs to a typical member of CMV subgroup IB. The resistance and resistance-breaking mechanisms of pepper and counterpart CMV, respectively, remain to be investigated, which will enrich the genetic resources and accelerate CMV-resistant pepper breeding programs.

In comparison of VCG specificity with foreign VCG subgroup testers, Korean isolates were revealed to be VCG 0094 and to be similar to those of Israel and Florida, USA having a "Universal" property. Results of this study will contribute the effective control of disease through precise estimation of fungal damage, the prediction of new pathogenic isolates appearance, and the movement of foreign pathogens.

tentatively identified as being fulllength cDNAs. Functional classification of the ESTs derived from pathogen-infected pepper leaves revealed that about 25% were disease- or defense-related genes. Furthermore, 323 (7%) ESTs were tentatively identified as being unique to hot pepper. This study represents the first analysis of sequence data from the hot pepper plant species. Although we focused on genes related to the plant defense response, our data will be useful for future comparative studies.

report described a simple, inexpensive, faster, and effective graft inoculation method for the artificial transmission of Mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV). Success of grafting and disease transmission was 100% in this method. Screening of mungbean germplasm using this method will prevent the chance of escape infection, probably as a consequence of non-preference mechanism and loss of vector infectivity. The grafting method described here is applicable to both screenhouse and field trials.
