The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 14 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2018, Vol.22 No.5 6 525-538 (14 pages)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a trauma-induced psychiatric disorder characterized by impaired fear extermination, hyperarousal, and anxiety that may involve the release of monoamines in the fear circuit. The reported pharmacological properties of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) include anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-atherosclerotic, and neuropsychiatric activities. However, the anxiolytic-like effects of TMP and its mechanism of action in PTSD are unclear. This study measured several... -

Activation of Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR-4) in articular chondrocytes increases the catabolic compartment and leads to matrix degradation during the development of osteoarthritis. In this study, we determined the proteomic and genomic alterations in human chondrocytes during lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and consequences of TLR-4 activation. Human chondrocytes were cultured with LPS for 12, 24,and 36 h to induce TLR-4 activation. The... -
MDL-12330A potentiates TRAIL-induced apoptosis in gastric cancer cells through CHOP-mediated DR5 upregulation
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2017, Vol.21 No.4 5 397-405 (9 pages)
MDL-12330A is a widely used adenylyl cyclase (AC) inhibitor that blocks AC/cAMP signaling. In this study, we demonstrated a novel antitumor activity of this drug in gastric carcinoma (GC) cell lines. In these GC cells, MDL-12330A reduced cell viability and induced cell death in a concentration-dependent manner. At a moderate concentration (~20 μM), MDL-12330A mainly induced apoptotic death whereas at concentrations greater than 20 μM, it increased non-apoptotic cell death. The induction of... -

a load equal to their body weight), while the food height (18.0 cm) in cages was increased progressively by 3.5 every 4 weeks until it reached 28.5 cm for 12 weeks. The SPA group showed a lower body weight compared to the CON group, but voluntary SPA did not affect the skeletal muscle and heart weights, food intake, and echocardiography results. Although the SPA group showed higher grip strength, running time, and distance compared to the CON group, the level of irisin, corticosterone, genetic... -

to mechanical stimulation, and paw withdrawal latency to heat were measured to evaluate pain behavior. Intra-articular administration of RTX (0.03, 0.003 and 0.0003%) at 2 weeks after the induction of knee joint inflammation significantly improved reduction of weight bearing on the ipsilateral hindlimb and increased paw withdrawal sensitivity to mechanical and heat stimuli. The reduction of pain behavior persisted for 3~10 days according to each behavioral test. The MIA-induced increase in CGRP... -
The Critical Roles of Zinc: Beyond Impact on Myocardial Signaling
SungRyulLee, SuJinNoh, JuliusRyanPronto, YuJeongJeong, HyoungKyuKim, InSungSong, ZhelongXu, HyogYoungKwon, SeChanKang, Eun-HwaSohn, KyungS 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 12 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2015, Vol.19 No.5 1 389-400 (12 pages)
Zinc has been considered as a vital constituent of proteins, including enzymes. Mobile reactive zinc (Zn2+) is the key form of zinc involved in signal transductions, which are mainly driven by its binding to proteins or the release of zinc from proteins, possibly via a redox switch. There has been growing evidence of zinc’s critical role in cell signaling, due to its flexible coordination geometry and rapid shifts in protein conformation to perform biological reactions. The importance and... -
Low Intensity Resistance Exercise Training with Blood Flow Restriction: Insight into Cardiovascular Function, and Skeletal Muscle Hypertrophy in Humans
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2015, Vol.19 No.3 1 191-196 (6 pages)
Attenuated functional exercise capacity in elderly and diseased populations is a common problem, and stems primarily from physical inactivity. Decreased function and exercise capacity can be restored by maintaining muscular strength and mass, which are key factors in an independent and healthy life. Resistance exercise has been used to prevent muscle loss and improve muscular strength and mass. However, the intensities necessary for traditional resistance training to increase muscular strength... -
Role of Cerebrospinal Fluid Biomarkers in Clinical Trials for Alzheimer’s Disease Modifying Therapies
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2014, Vol.18 No.6 1 447-456 (10 pages)
Until now, a disease-modifying therapy (DMT) that has an ability to slow or arrest Alzheimer’s disease (AD) progression has not been developed, and all clinical trials involving AD patients enrolled by clinical assessment alone also have not been successful. Given the growing consensus that the DMT is likely to require treatment initiation well before full-blown dementia emerges, the early detection of AD will provide opportunities to successfully identify new drugs that slow the course of AD... -

al expression of IL-6, TNF-α and IFN-β were significantly induced in sH1N1-infected cells. Pre-treatment of cells with poly I:C (an analog of viral double-stranded RNA) and CpG-ODN (a CpG-motif containing oligodeoxydinucleotide) resulted in a strong reduction of viral and cytokines mRNA expression. The results presented indicated the innate immune response activation in Hep-2 cells and affirm the antiviral role of Poly I:C and CpG-ODN in the protection against seasonal influenza A viruses. -

We have recently demonstrated that some anti-diabetic drugs such as biguanide and thizolidi-nediones administered centrally modulate the blood glucose level, suggesting that orally administered anti-diabetic drugs may modulate the blood glucose level by acting on central nervous system. The present study was designed to explore the possible action of another class of anti-diabetic drugs, glinidies, administered centrally on the blood glucose level in ICR mice. Mice were administered...
