치과 임프란트는 지난 반세기를 거치면서 이제는 상실된 치아를 수복할 수 있는 가장 효과적이며, 일반적인 방법 으로 이용 되어지고 있으며, 또한 만족할 만한 성공율도 보이고 있다1-2). 이러한 결과들을 바탕으로 최근에는 치 료기간을 단축시키려는 욕구에 의하여 식립 후 조기하중 의 단계를 거쳐, 식립 후 즉시하중에 대한 성공적인 보고 들이 대두되었고, 마침내는 근년에 이르러 발치와 동시 에 발치와에 임프란트를 식립하고 조기하중 또는 즉시하 중에 대한 보고들이 점점 증가하고 있다.

단일 혹은 다수의 치아가 상실된 증례에서 기능성, 심미성, 경조직과 연조직의 형태, 발음, 구강내 건강 등을 회복하기 위해서 보철 수복 치료가 요구된다. 보철치료를 대체할 수 있는 치료 방법으로 임프란트 치료가 새로이 대두되었다. 지난 30년 동안 1차와 2차 수술 과정을 거치는 통상적인 임프란트 수복에 대한 적절성이 평가되었고, 근년에 이르 러서는 통상의 2회 수술법에서 더 나아가 치료 기간의 단축에 대한 욕구가 매우 강해졌다.
