Phaik Im Kan, Fonny Dameaty Hutagalung, Fong Peng Chew 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 28 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2022, Vol.16 No.3 4 71-98 (28 pages)
This study aims to identify the relationship between emotional competence and self-efficacy with the commitment of preschool teachers in the state of Selangor in addition to testing emotional competence and self-efficacy as predictor factors to teacher commitment. This study is based on the Emotional Competence Theory developed by Goleman (2001), the Self-efficacy Model by Tschannen-Moran & Hoy (2001) and Teacher Commitment Model by Thien et al. (2014). This is a survey study involved 428... -

Haesung Im, Seung-Ryoul Lim 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 19 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.3 7 135-153 (19 pages)
Until recently, less attention has been paid to how coaches’ different perceptions of their roles may affect early childhood teachers’ coaching experiences. This article investigates how two coaches in two school districts interpret the critical elements of cognitive coaching during National Board Certification. With a comparative case study, the findings suggest that two coaches had seemingly different perceptions of coaching roles depending on the analysis of teachers’ urgent needs and... -

Alfredo Bautista, Malikka Habib, Raymond Ong, Anthony Eng, Rebecca Bull 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 28 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 6 95-122 (28 pages)
Mathematics education researchers and curriculum designers have emphasized the importance of representations in fostering students’ mathematical learning. However, most classroom-based studies on representations have focused on primary and secondary levels, and there is limited literature on how preschool teachers integrate representations in regular classroom activities. This qualitative study illustrates specific ways in which preschool educators may utilize multiple representations to teach... -

환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2018, Vol.12 No.3 2 23-44 (22 pages)
Shared reading is a common instructional activity in preschools. However, not all preschool teachers receive training in shared reading. This research investigated factors that influenced the attitudes, perceptions, and practices of shared reading among an urban sample of preschool teachers in Malaysia. The findings revealed that prior training experience in shared reading courses or seminars significantly influenced preschool teachers’ attitudes toward shared reading. Those who reportedly had... -

science and literacy but also increased the amount of shared or communal agency in the classroom, even affecting the development of social capabilities by the children and teacher alike. Using a conceptual framework borrowed from development economics and particularly the work on agency and capabilities by Sen (1999; 2003), this paper counters a strictly psychological, individualistic version of agency and instead conceptualizes agency as a means to building individual and communal capabilities. -
Rethinking Story Reading in U.S. Preschools: Making Story Comprehension and Social-Emotional Understanding the Priority
Judith A. Schickedanz 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2014, Vol.8 No.2 2 5-25 (21 pages)
This paper begins with a brief historical overview that provides a context for understanding approaches to story reading in U.S. preschools. It also discusses factors that have prompted a new trend in story reading, one emphasizing story comprehension directly, not as a vehicle for developing only oral vocabulary and print-related literacy skills. This backdrop, as well as discussions of new research and achievement difficulties in school-age children, sets the stage for the author’s suggestion... -

emotional competence (i.e., skills for emotion expression, knowledge, and regulation), and this goal is achieved through universal processes (namely, through adults’ responses to emotions, modeling, emotion conversations, and meta-emotion philosophies). However, these universal processes are enacted through practices that are culture-specific. This conceptual model provides a useful heuristic for examining early childhood educators’ emotion socialization practices across cultural contexts.
