Adenosine has been reported to provide cytoprotection in the central nervous systems as well as myocardium by activating cell surface adenosine receptors. However, the exact target and mechanism of its action still remain controversial. The present study was performed to examine whether adenosine has a protective effect against Aβ-induced injury in neuroglial cells. The astrocyte-derived human neuroglioma cell line, A172 cells, and Aβ25∼35 were employed to produce an experimental Aβ-induced... -

Natriuretic peptides comprise a family of three structurally related peptides; atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), and C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP). The present study was performed to investigate the effect of ANP on the proliferation and activity of ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells which are well-characterized osteoblastic cell lines. ANP dose-dependently decreased the number of ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells after 48-hour treatment. ANP generally increased the alkaline... -

This investigation is to determine whether the surface complexation of iron influence acute pulmonary responses induced by silica. For this study, three varieties of cation complexed silica were used: silica-H, -Zn2, and -Fe3, since the first two are not active in the transport of electrons and generate little free radicals relative to the dust with the surface iron. Rats (270 to 280 g) were intratracheally (IT) instilled with saline, silica-H, -Zn2, or... -

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a degenerative neuromuscular disease of unknown etiology in which the upper and lower motor neurons are progressively destroyed. Recent evidences support the role of autoimmune mechanisms in the pathogenesis of ALS. This study investigated the effects of sera from ALS patients on neuromuscular transmission in phrenic nerve-hemidiaphragm preparations and on calcium currents of single isolated dorsal root ganglion (DRG) cells in mice. Mice were injected with... -
Mediation of Intracellular Ca2+ in the Phospholipase A2-induced Cell Proliferation in Human Neuroblastoma Cells

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.4 2 411-417 (7 pages)
The role of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) in tumor cell growth was investigated using SK-N-MC human neuroblastoma cells. 4-Bromophenacyl bromide (BPB) and mepacrine (Mep), known PLA2 inhibitors, suppressed growth of the tumor cells in a dose-dependent manner without a significant cytotoxicity. Melittin (Mel), a PLA2 activator, enhanced the cell growth in a concentration-dependent fashion. The growth-enhancing effects of Mel were significantly reversed by the co-treatment with PLA2 inhibitors. In... -

We previously reported that some components of ginsenosides decreased mediator releases evoked by the activation of mast cells with specific antigen-antibody reactions. This study aimed to assess the effects of ginsenosides (Rb2, Re) on the mechanism of histamine release in the mast cell activation. We partially purified guinea pig lung mast cells by using enzyme digestion, the rough and the discontinuous percoll density gradient method. Mast cells were sensitized with IgG1 and challenged with... -
Induction of Apoptosis by Bile Acids in HepG2 Human Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells
JinHyenBaek, Jung-AeKim, Chang-MoKang, YongSooLee, Kyu-WonKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.1 14 107-115 (9 pages)
We studied the effects of bile acids on the induction of apoptosis in HepG2 human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Treatment with either ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) or lithocholic acid (LCA) resulted in a dose- and time-dependent decrease in cell viability assessed by MTT assay. Both UDCA and LCA also induced genomic DNA fragmentation, a hallmark of apoptosis, indicating that the mechanism by which these bile acids induce cell death was through apoptosis. Cycloheximide, a protein synthesis... -
