미 캘리포니아주 리버싸이드의 야외실험 논못에서 발생하는 Culex tarsalis Coquillett와 C. peus Speiser의 유충구제실험을 위하여 1974년 6월 30일부터 10월 31일까지 4개월간, 4개의 논못을 사용, 각 2개의 임의 선택한 논에 천적 플라나리아 Dugesia dorotocephala(Woodworth)를 300마리의 비율로 투입처리하였다. 천적투입후 4주인 7월 28일에는 68.4%의 평균유충구제율을 보였으며, 9월 10일 부가처리한 200마리의 플라나리아로 인하여 유충구제율은 16일후 79.3%로 증가하였고, 9월 24일에 75.0%, 10월 23일에 77.3%의 구제율을 각각 보였다. 천적 플라나리아의 번식은 10월 중순에는 투입처리시의 평균수에 비해 2.5배가 되었다.
300 mature 15-20mm Dugesia doroocephala(Woodworth) introduced into rice ponds at Riverside on June 30th, 1974 produced 68.4% control of Culex tarsalis Coquillett and C. peus Speiser 4 weeks after treatment. An additional 200 Dugesia introduced on August 10th resulted in raising control to 79.3% 16 eays later, and 75.0% and 77.3% on September 24th and October 23rd, respectively. Planaria density was estimated to have more than doubled(2.46 times) by mid-October.
