1993년 6월부터 1995년 8월까지 소흑산도(小黑山島) 주변에 서식(棲息)하고 있는 어류를 조사한 결과 모두 3강(綱) 14목(目) 59과(科) 97속(屬) 128종(種)이 서식(棲息)하고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 이들 중에서 농어목(目) 어류가 모두 27과(科) 44속(屬) 54종(種)으로 전체 어류의 42.2%로서 가장 많이 출현하였고, 다음이 횟대목(目) 어류로서 8과(科) 15속(屬) 25종(種)으로 19.5%에 해당되었다. 이외에도 가자미목(目) 어류가 5과(科) 13속(屬) 16종(種)으로 12.5%였고, 복어목(目) 어류가 3과(科) 4속(屬) 8종(種)으로 6.3%였다. 한편 이들 중 많은 종(種)을 포함(包含)하고 있는 분류군은 횟대목(目)의 양볼락과(科)로서 13종(種)이 확인(確認)되었고, 다음이 농어목(目) 어류의 민어과(科)와 가자미목(目)의 가자미과(科)로 각각 8종(種)씩 출현하고 있었다. 지금까지 우리 나라에서는 서식(棲息)이 확인되지 않았던 종(種)으로 Cypselurus unicolor, Signauns canaliculutus, Tarphops elegans 등의 3종(種)이 추가 확인되었고, 이 외에도 Raja sp., Scorpaenopsis sp. Sebasticus sp., Entomacrodus sp. 및 Psettodes sp. 등이 분류학적으로 주목되었다. 한편 본 해역에서 출현하고 있는 어종(魚種)중에서 경제적(經濟的)으로 부가가치(附加價値)가 높은 종(種)으로는 Raja kenojei, Sebastes schlegeli, Sebastes thompsoni, Lateolabrax japonicus, Nibea albiflora, Argyrosomus argentatus, Pseudosciaena poliactis, Miichthys miiuy, Mugil cephalus, Paralichthys olivaceus, Cynoglossus joyneri 및 Cynoglossus semilaevis 등(等)이고 이 중에서 Sebastes schlegeli와 Sebastes thompsoni는 소흑산도(小黑山島)를 상징(象徵)할 수 있는 대표적(代表的)인 어종(魚種)으로 사료(思料)되었다.
To determine the fish fauna and their characteristics of the Sohuksando Island located in the South - Western Sea of Korea, samples were collected from June 1993 to August 1995. 128 species belonging to 59 families and 97 genera were identified. Among them the order Perciformes were about 42.2% of total species, as 54 species belonging to 27 families and 44 genera, and order Scorpaeniformes, 19.5%, as 25 species belonging to 8 families and 15 genera. Besides of these groups, order Pleuronectiformes were about 12.5%, as 16 species belonging to 5 families and 13 genera, and order Tetraodontiformes, 6.3%, as 8 species belonging to 3 families and 4 genera. Cypselurus unicolor, Siganus canaliculutus and Tarphops elegans from Sohuksando Island are reported here as first record species from Korea. The unidentified species were Raja sp., Scorpaenopsis sp., Sebastes sp., Entomacrodus sp. and Psettodes sp.. The economic fishes of this area were Raja kenojei, Sebastes schlegeli, Sebastes thompsoni, Lateolabrax japonicus, Nibea albiflora, Argyrosomus argentatus, Pseudosciaena poliactis, Miichthys miiuy, Mugil cephalus, Paralichthys olivaceus, Cynoglossus joyneri and Cynoglossus semilaevis.
