Symbols are expression of mental imageries of original form and shown in poetry, fine art, dreams, folk tales, proverbs and mythology. Since folk tales, mythology and traditional Korean fairy tales are shaped by group sub-consciousness and expressed in original form, they are treasure boxes for those who study group sub-consciousness. Particularly, since the researcher find people and animals from fairy tales and nursery rhymes in children’s sandbox and it’s needed to understand what these symbolize for. Hence, the researcher studied biological characteristics and the symbolic meaning of cow in Korean culture and mythology. Also it’s studied that of Korean traditional fairy tales and the one shown in a child’s sandplay. In Korean culture cow symbolizes: cow in traditional folk plays, righteousness and loyalty, guardian angel, offerings for dead people, sincerity and diligence, and leisure and peace. In other countries cow symbolizes: holy cow and god, resurrection born again and god of sun and sky and earth. In Korean traditional fairy tales cow symbolizes: helper in difficulties, spirit of dead mother, personal growth and becoming more productive. After the researcher saw a cow showing up in a girl’s sandbox playing Snow White and Cinderella, started studying the symbolic meaning of the cow as mother. After a baby brother was born the girl was struggling for parental attention. A spotted cow showed up while she was continuously playing sandplay of Snow White and Cinderella. In the sandplay the cow was a helper, a guardian angel and the spirit of her lost mother. There are similarities between the symbolic meaning of the cow shown in the child client’s sandbox and the spotted cow in the Korean traditional fairy tale, Kongji and Patzzi. They are cow as a healer, a helper in difficulties and a guardian angel guiding her to happiness and overcome negative image of her mother complex.
