Silicon carbide foam is a highly porous materials that are used for wide range of technological
applications, such as catalytic supports, porous burners, reformers and solar absorbers. In this study,
foam type porous silicon carbide ceramics were fabricated by polymer replica method using carbon
black, phenol resin, silicon powder and polyurethane foam as raw materials. The synthesized porous
SiC ceramics were analyzed by SEM-EDS and XRD measurements from the SEM results. SiC foam
after heat treated at 1420℃ showed porous microstructure, however after second heat treatment at
1550℃, it became densified. The XRD data indicated that SiC foam composed of mostly β-SiC phase
and small amount of unreacted of Si phase.
