The purpose of this study was to find out if the amotivation patterns of elementary school students were qualitatively distinct rather than appearing as one of a plurality of patterns; and, if they were qualitatively different, then these differences would be examined through further exploration. We used the second wave survey of the Korea Education Longitudinal Study(KELS) 2013. By applying latent profile analysis to 444 high amotivated elementary school students, four distinct latent profiles of amotivations were found: low expectancy group, low value group, high value group, and average group. Students who had higher academic self-concepts and believed that intelligence is incremental were less likely to be in the low expectancy group as compared to the other three groups. Students who had positive perceptions of parenting behaviors and also had high academic pressure from teachers were more likely to be in the high value group as compared to the low expectancy group. Suggestions for future research and the implications of this study were discussed.
