This study is intending to look into the general medical service and unmet medical needs status
targeting the disabled for national basic livelihood support in Korea, and to clarify the determinants
that have an influence on unmet medical needs. Also, this study is aimed at providing basic
data for establishment of required medical service support policy for these disabled beneficiaries.
For this purpose, this study analyzed the 801 disabled aged over 19 in full for basic livelihood
support among the survey target for『The 2011 National Survey of the Disabled Persons』;
as a result, it was found that these people's unmet medical needs showed a statistically
significant difference according to their age, subjective health status, performance level of
daily life, type of disability, and possibility of going out alone.
In addition, based on the result of logistic analysis of the influence on unmet medical need
determinants, this study could confirm that properties of disability itself, personal health status,
and activity possibility worked as influence factors in their use medical services. On the basis
of this result, the study suggested that it's necessary for the state to make efforts to establish
the health policy for the disabled, such as service offer in the light of types and level of
the disabled, strengthening of efforts for economic support of low-income disabled persons'
self-support, and chronic disease management service, etc.
