The long-term care insurance system was initially introduced 10
years ago in Japan. The long-term care insurance service
recipients have been increasing steadily during the decade. The lay
people should have paid more tax due to the increasing nursing
costs as the time goes on. Thus, the effectiveness of the system
should be evaluated regularly. A prevention approach, as one of the
projects that were developed by the Health, Medical and Care
sectors, was applied to the long-term care insurance system to
check the effectiveness. Metabolic syndrome screening and specific
health education projects for middle-aged and elderly people were
included in the approach, although there were not many
participants on the schemes.
