Education is to enhance both cognitive achievement and affective capability including ‘good
character formation’ of students. School education have been criticized for putting too much
emphasis on the academic achievement due to entrance examination competition, disregarding its
role of character formation.
Paying attention to this divergence to explore the interrelation of between the two elements,
this study utilizes the ‘Learning to Learn’ assessment tool designed by the Finland Education
Evaluation Center and, analyzes and compares the relations between learning competency and
problematic and anti-social behaviors, and between current ‘school academic achievement grade’
and such behavioral characteristics.
The results indicate that students’ problematic, anti-social behaviors evidently have negative
relation with learning competencies, but had no significant relation with the current ‘school
academic achievement.’
