본 연구는 지금도 벽화가 그려지고 있는 마을이 계속 생기고 있고, 벽화마을에 대한 부가가 치나 미적 의미를 제고하는 사안들이 발생하는 데 착안하여, 이러한 여러 가지 벽화마을의 장점과 단점을 재조명하고 좀 더 미적이고 가치 있는 벽화마을의 지속적인 발전을 위해 현지 주민들과 작가와의 소통이 융합적인 방법을 제언하고자 연구하게 되었다. 과거에는 벽과 담 은 집안과 집밖을 차단하는 역할이나 보호하는 기능으로 사용되었으나, 최근에는 ‘아트펜스’라 는 장르가 등장할 만큼 벽화에 대한 의미와 가치가 높아지고 있다. 하지만 마을마다 그려진 벽화는 조성된 지 4, 5년이 지나면서 대체로 훼손이 시작되는데, 마을 사정에 따라서 그대로 방치되고 있는 경우가 있다. 이처럼 벽화가 그려진 벽화마을에는 우리가 얘기치 못한 명과 암의 사정들이 이슈화되고 있다. 이런 측면에서 벽화마을이 안고 있는 긍정적인 측면은 무엇 이며, 부정적인 측면은 무엇인지를 살펴보는 것은 미래 벽화마을의 설계를 위해서도 매우 고 무적인 일일 것이다. 벽화마을의 긍정적인 측면을 파악하기 위해 지역주민에게 생활만족도, 지역문화 향상도, 도 시재생 정책 반영도 등에 영향을 미쳤음을 알 수 있고, 부정적인 측면으로는 주민과의 소통 부재, 행정 운영상의 문제, 지속가능한 프로젝트 부족 등을 알 수 있었다. 앞으로 도시 미관 정비를 위해 시작된 벽화가 도시의 흉물로 변하지 않기 위해서는 본 연구에서 분석한 긍정적 인 측면의 발전 방안이나 부정적인 측면의 재정비가 필요할 것이다.
This study, based on the idea that the villages with wall paintings still show up continuously and the things are happening that make added values or artistic implications of wall painting villages rise, is to re-illuminate the several good effects and bad effects about wall painting villages and provide an harmonious approach by which artists and the local inhabitants can communicate each other for more valuable and artistic developments of the wall painting villages. Previously, walls and fences were just used as protection or barricades between in and out of houses, however, the meanings and values of the wall paintings rise so much as a new genre ‘art fence’ is emerging. However, the produced paintings on the walls begin to decay after 4 or 5 years of completion in general, and according to the cases of the villages the works are just left abandoned. Like this way, some light and shadowy issues we have not expected are coming up in the wall painting villages. From this effect of view, it will be very encouraging to examine the positive and negative effects that the wall painting villages have, even for design of the future wall painting villages. As the positive effects, the wall paintings have had influence on the local inhabitants about their lives satisfactions, improvement of the local cultures, and the considerations for the town reviving policies. As the negative effects, there have been the issues of the lack of communications with the local people, administrative operation, and not enough sustainable projects. To keep the wall paintings which began for improving cities appearances from deteriorating into abandoned horrid things in cities, we should rearrange the positive and negative effects that we have mentioned in this paper.
