Objective : This study was to be conducted to identify the mirror therapy meditation for domestic patients
with stroke.
Methods : From January, 2000 to August, 2012, we searched through KERIS the for essays post in
doctoral thesis or academic magazine and mainly used vocabularies such as mirror therapy,
mirror meditative therapy and stroke.
Results : In aspect of subjects that had participated in each studies, the study with more than twenty
subjects was only one and the number of subject of all the other studies was less than
twenty, which means level of reasonability was not so high. For research design of each
thesis, randomized trial was seven among every research and the other three was non-RCT.
In aspect of internal/external justifiability, ten studies were in the middle level of in/external
justifiability, and in aspect of efficacy of therapy nine out of ten studies was confirmed
to have gained meaningful effect because it matched hypothesis of thesis. However,
one study did not gain meaningful change of proprioceptive sense of upper extremity
function. The development of motor function of upper extremity had been mentioned in total
six studies more than others as it was found efficacious and the development of activities
of daily living was second. The other meditative application effect of mirror therapy
that was once mentioned is development of motor function of lower extremity ,of unilateral
neglect, and of ability of muscle, sense of balance, and of walking.
Conclusion : The future study is going to obtain more subjects according to such as result and to do
some work about continuous medical effect through investigation. The more studies about
various medical possibility other than mirror therapy meditation will be required.
