Objectives : This study, Caregivers of patients with dysphagia who examines the degree of knowledge of
dysphagia management and related Educational Needs not only develop more specialized dysphagia
management but also education programs that tried to provide basic data for
implementing.
Methods : Located in Busan, a total of five specialized rehabilitation hospitals and rehabilitation hospitals
in the been diagnosed dysphagia, swallowing receiving treatment in the patient's caregivers
from 1 August 2012 until 31 August 2012 were mailed questionnaires, collected and
analyzed a total of 70 call.
Results : Knowledge of dysphagia management, out of a total of 40 points from the average was
26.66 points and Equivalent of 100 points, the result was an average of 66.64 points. Also
Results of converted to a 100-point scale according to the knowledge of patient’s relationship,
assistant was investigated the highest average of 70.12 points, spouse average of
65.11points, and Children average of 55.62 point. Dysphagia Educational Needs was appeared
that the most common “want” of 68.6% and “extremely want” of 20.0%. The most
desired training methods was appeared Case occurs Cope and Precautions the highest at
60.0% and sensory stimulation, tongue, and facial muscles exercise method was appeared at
57.1%. Moreover, education programs of therapist in the educational methods was highest at
61.4%.
Conclusion : The management of dysphagia patients of knowledge for Caregivers and the Educational
Needs Survey and the most desired education based on research results identified education
program of therapist professional shall develop and implement. after, Will need to devise a
strategy that can help the management of patients with dysphagia.
