In general, the devolution of power from the goddess to god is a main
axis of narrative in myths. However, it needs to cast doubt on this
common belief that this transition is occurred only by the one way
direction. On the process of Jacheongbi in Jeju island becomes the
agricultural goddess, she shows the specific feature of androgyny, and
transfers her sacred power to male characters like her husband
MoonDoryeong and the slave CheongSunam. The substances of
male-gods are based on their positions, a substituter of a goddess. We
can see the great journey of the goddess by the different point of view.
Similarly, Checheng Goa in Mongol and Wife of Hwangwooyang in
Korea take roles as assistants of male-gods, who represent roles of
female-goddess.
Meanwhile, Zeus in Greece is the greatest male-god who has the
feature of androgyny and he stands his sons, not the female-goddess,
as representatives. For example, Dionysus becomes the representative of
the goddess Aphrodite which means Dionysus are able to appropriate the
power of Zeus.
Jacheongbi and Zeus shows the functional relation. Both two
characters are described as the androgyny, but the aspects of substituters
of their power are totally different. Therefore, we can draw the
fundamental concept of role-substituter of the high ranked god, and it would be one of the most important signs to create the common theory
of myth.
