The purpose of this study was to investigate the teaching and learning methods
which were mainly used in the special education field and the recognition of
learnercentered
teaching and learning methods, focusing on special education teachers
working in special kindergerden, elementary, middle, and high schools and special
classes, And the degree of application, support needs, and suggestions.
A total of 422 respondents participated in the questionnaire. The contents of the
questionnaire were divided into five parts: first, background information such as age,
sex, workplace, and career; second, awareness and execution of the curriculum; third,
recognition and application of teaching and learning methods; fourth, recognition and
application of learnercentered
teaching and learning methods, and fifth, support needs.
Teachers mainly applied demonstrations, lectures and explanations, but expressed
the need for applying learnercentered
teaching and learning methods such as
cooperative learning, project learning, inquiry learning, and discussion learning. The
teaching and learning method requirements included clear and detailed guidelines that
included detailed examples that are practical, a systematic training and dissemination
of materials, exchange of opinions and information exchange among teachers through
the activation of teacher meetings, and teachers reflecting the specificity of special
education. The necessity of expansion of discretion rights and training was proposed.
