This study aims to analyze the activities of education-related interest
groups and presidential candidates during presidential election campaigns. For
this purpose, newspaper articles pertaining to the 18th presidential election
from November 27, 2012 to December 18, 2012, the official campaign period
for the election were analyzed. The interest groups reported on the press
during the election campaigns were related experts, journalists, politicians,
political parties, educational groups, civic groups, religious organizations,
academy groups, students, teachers, parents, private instructors, etc. The
policy interests presented by these interest groups included public education,
private education, universities, private schools, human rights, employment,
innovative school and education in general. The means by which the interest
groups expressed their opinions were editorials, debates, press report, open
questionnaires, forum, verification of policy etc., and they were mostly
shown to be standing neuter on various issues. The presidential candidates’
activities related to education during the election campaigns included press
conferences, campaigns tours, election pledges, TV debates, written replies to
public inquires by various interest groups, social media, etc. The activities of
education-related interest groups during presidential election campaigns are
identified and it is lacking in terms of policy elections but it is significant
that discussion of education and educational policy is lively so policy learning
and verification of policy leadership is occurred.
