본 연구는 초등학교 저학년의 방과후 시간의 사용과 의미에 대해 알아보고 이를 통해 초등학교 저학년 아동의 방과후 시간 활용과 요구에 대해 이해하고자 한다. 이를 위해 초등학교 저학년에 재학중인 자녀를 둔 어머니 4명을 대상으로 선정하였다. 연구를 위한 자료 수집은 연구자의 반성 적 저널, 개별 면담, 집단 면담을 통해 이루어졌다. 연구 결과 초등학교 저학년 아동의 방과후 시 간은 사교육을 위한 학습의 연장 시간으로 사용되고 있었다. 아동들은 방과후 잠깐 휴식을 취한 뒤 학원으로 가서 수업을 듣는 경우가 대부분이었다. 또한 아동이 수업을 하지 않고 쉬는 시간에 도 또래 친구들과 어울리며 휴식을 취하는 것이 아니라 대부분 집 안에서 컴퓨터 게임이나 만화 책을 보는 등 혼자만의 휴식 시간을 보내는 경우가 많았다. 이에 대해 부모들은 아동의 안전을 고려하여 실내에서 휴식의 시간을 가지도록 하였으며 실내에서 할 수 있는 활동이 제한적이어서 아동은 컴퓨터 게임을 비교적 쉽게 접할 수 있었다. 자녀가 방과후 시간을 사교육에 투자하는 경 우 부모들은 현재의 입시제도에 대한 불안과 대비로 인해 자녀를 어쩔 수 없이 학원에 보내게 되 며 자녀가 방과후 시간을 학원에 가는 것과 또래와 어울리지 않고 혼자서 게임 등을 하며 시간을 보내는 것에 대하여 갈등과 혼란을 느끼고 있었다. 맞벌이 가정 자녀의 경우는 사교육을 위한 수 업시간이라는 의미 외에도 퇴근하는 부모를 기다리기 위하여 학원을 이용하기도 하였다. 이 시간 은 단순한 학습의 시간이라기보다는 자녀가 보호자 없이 혼자 있는 것을 방지하기 위하여 학원을 이용하는 시간으로 사용되고 있다.
The following stuty is focuses on the meaning of time student's after school. Through this process, the purpose of this paper was to find the meaning of time whose child is elementary school student. For this, 4 mothers whose child attend in elementary school were selected as the subjects of this study. The subject's journal, the researcher's reflections, individual interviews, and team interviews were used to collect data for the study. Research has shown that most children use their after school time as a studying time in their English academies. They don't have time to play with their friends and even they are free, their friends go their own academy. So they played by themselves with playing games or reading a comic books. Theis parents feel confused when they send theis children to academy after school but they think there're no ways to do well in this educational system. However, If children's mothers have a job, their children also go academy not because of studying but of safety care. Most mother who get a job worry about their children's safety during their work. Children's after school time is mostly use in academy because of current educational system .It's not easy for them to play together because of theie own schedule. Theis parents also worry and feel confused about it but they have to use their children's time for another studying.
