The purpose of the study was to explore the difficulties of teaching volleyball type instruction, which is a net type-competition activity and a most interesting subject among PE classes, and to suggest the improved solution for the problems and difficulties of teaching PE. In order to fulfill the purpose of the study, this study used in-depth interview method with 7 elementary teachers and analyzed the data inductively. The results of the study were categorized into three chief factors such as teacher factor, student factor, and environmental factor. And the results were as follows: First, examining the teacher factor, elementary teacher had a feeling of burden because they have to teach all the other subjects including PE and they were perplexed to teach both theory and skills for the volleyball so that they had confusion of ideas on the purpose of the classes. Second, looking into the student factor, there were difficulties of mastering volleyball skills itself and the gaps among students’learning abilities so that these factors made students feel difficult when they learn volleyball type lessons. Third, analyzing the environmental factor, narrow space, lack of class material, and inappropriate volleyball balls for children, class equipment which are difficult to set up and take down were the hindering factors for normal classes. Through the result of the study, this study reached the following conclusion. First, in order to solve the difficulties of the volleyball type classes, facilities and equipment fit for the elementary student level should be developed and distributed, at th same time, there must be various seminars and education programs for the preliminary and current teachers are needed and activated. Second, both peer cooperation teaching classes and various lead-up programs for stimulating student motivation should be developed. Besides, researchers and the teachers in teaching field need to work together to develop a new alternative sport for current volleyball type sport.
