This research has been done to find the implications from an analysis in
the changes of the paradigm on Global Citizenship Education(GCED), and
to propose how to reflect these onto lessons. There are three changes of
the paradigm which are; problems that concern all of us, a concrete
understanding of GCED concepts, and a focus on practice and participation
by analyzing the GCED trend of research and educational field programs.
These are reflected in the action research of the “Global issues” topic in
social studies of 6th grade elementary school students. The theme about
global issues is subdivided as: global dispute and peace, and sustainable
development issues in the 2015 revision curriculum. Therefore in this
research the extent of global dispute and peace was established; and
through this, lesson objectives were made with regards to the curriculum’s
standards as well as topics and aims from the UNESCO guide. To know
the process of the paradigm’s reflecting elements, the students’ answers,
worksheets and interviews after each lesson is used. In conclusion, the
expansion of lesson hours in order to study enough about these issues, a different textbook system to reflect the contents of the topic, and a
development in the teaching profession as a specialization are required.
