오늘날 우리 사회는 급속한 사회변화로 인해 개인주의와 물질만능주의, 능력중 심의 가치가 팽배해지면서 공동체의식 및 도덕성 상실 등의 현상이 심화되고 있 다. 특히 교육현장에서는 입시위주 교육에 치중하게 되면서 인간다운 가치와 태도 형성 및 인간관계를 맺는 방법을 익힐 수 있는 기회를 박탈하게 되었고, 이는 결 국 가족관계나 친구 관계와 같은 대인관계에서 다양한 사회적 문제를 일으키게 됨으로써 이로 인한 사회적 위기의식이 고조되고 있는 현실이다.
This Study is to examine effect of the character education program focused on empathy using picture books on children's empathy ability. Forty-five 3-5years old children were selected in J kindergarten Gwang-ju. Picture books for character education program focused on empathy selected by the researcher. Pre-and post-tests were evaluated by each tool and date analyzed with a t-test using SPSS Win 18.0. As a result of study, children who experienced character education program focused on empathy using picture books showed significant results children's empathy ability. The results very remarkable implication in developing and applying teaching and learning methods of character education program focused on empathy for young children.
