This study aims to illuminate the future direction for academic society of music education in Korea. For
the purpose, the following contents were analyzed: (1) changes and educational trends in future society
including research conducted in the OECD, UNESCO, etc, and (2) academic trends of music education not
only from Korea but also from other countries such as USA, Canada, HongKong, Kenya, and so on.
Also, the study suggested improvement directions of music education for future school in Korea through
data analysis. As a result, the study argued that the academic society of music education needs to focus on
the musical communication and enjoyment as well as to conceptualize a core competency based on the
musical literacy. Indeed, the study also suggested the music education needs to strengthen the
emotion-based humanistic education, understanding-based performance, emotion-based digital music literacy,
self-directed cooperation, diversified curriculum, lifelong curriculum, and system maintenance.
