The objective of this study was to identify the relationships among mothers’ adult attachment,
psychological control and their young children’s self-control. The participants of the study were 221 pairs
of mothers and their young children aged 3 to 5 years, who attended kindergartens in Incheon-Ci and
Gyeonki-Do. For the data analysis, frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, reliability test, t-test,
ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were conducted using SPSS 18.0. version. The results of the
study are as follows. First, there were significant differences in young children’s self-control according to
their age, gender, and their mothers’ age, and academic career. Second, there was a significant correlation
between mothers’ intimacy which was a sub-scale of adult attachment and young children’s self-control.
Additionally there was a significant negative correlation between mothers’ psychological control and their
young children’s self-control. Third, mothers’ unstable emotional control, which was a sub-scale of
psychological control, and mothers’ intimacy, which was a sub-scale of adult attachment, significantly
predicted the young children’s self -control.
