본 연구는 인공지능 기반 4차 산업사회의 영어 교육에 대한 초등교사와 교사교육자들의 인식을 조사하였다.연구 문제는 4차 산업혁명이 영어교육에 미치는 영향,인공지능 기반 신경망 번역의 강․약점,4차 산업사회에서 영어교육 및 영어교사 교육이 지향할 방향에 대한 초등교사와 교사교 육자의 인식은 어떠한가였다.문제의 답을 얻기 위해 설문 조사가 실시되었고,교사교육자들에게는 개방형 설문지가,초등교사들에게는 교사교육자들의 응답을 기반으로 개발된 반구조화 설문지가 투입되었다.조사 결과 교사교육자와 초등교사들은 연구 문제에 대해 대체로 유사한 인식을 하고 있는 것으로 드러났다.다만,4차 산업혁명의 영향에 대해 교사교육자들은 그것이 영어 교육에 기 회를 제공할 것으로 전망하는데 비해 초등교사 집단은 절반 정도의 응답자들이 위기를 초래할 것 으로 우려하고 있었다.연구 결과로부터 본 연구는 두 집단이 인식을 공유하는 부분에 대해서는 그것을 실제로 구현하기 위해 구체적인 방안을 모색하고,인식의 차이가 있는 부분,즉 4차 산업혁 명이 영어교육의 기회가 될 것인지 혹은 위기가 될 것인지,그리고 각각의 경우에 어떻게 대처할 것인지에 대해서는 심층적인 논의를 전개할 필요가 있다는 결론을 도출하였다.
The present study aims to investigate what elementary school teachers and teacher educators think of future English education in the 4th industrial society based on artificial intelligence. According to the purpose, four research questions were established: what influences the 4th industrial revolution is expected to exert on English education; what the potentialities and limitations of neural machine translation are; which direction English education in the 4th industrial society should take; and which direction English teacher education in the 4th industrial society should take. A survey was conducted and two groups participated in the survey: one was made of 10 teacher educators and the other 11 elementary school teachers. An open questionnaire was given to the teacher educator group and a semi-structured one developed on the basis of the teacher educator group's answers was given to the elementary school teacher group. The survey result showed that in general the two groups share quite similar ideas. However, a significant difference was found between the two groups in regard to influence on English education by the 4th industrial revolution. All in the teacher educator group expected it would provide an opportunity to solve the problems accumulated in English education, but approximately half of the elementary school teacher group worried it might work as a crisis. With the result the study draws the conclusion that efforts need to be made to follow and realize what were suggested by both groups, and that further discussion is required on whether the 4th industrial revolution would be an opportunity or a crisis for English education and what can be done in each case.
