Faced with unprecedented change, such as the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the current
research recognized the call to revisit the research topic of organizational culture. With intent to spur
novel and rich discourse, a particular attention was paid to epistemological perspectives and contributions
embedded in extant organizational culture research. An integrative literature review was conducted to
examine (1) research methodologies used by, (2) perspectives and contributions embedded in, and (3)
main topics researched by reviewed studies. The review of 125 articles from Korea Citation Index found
the following. First, nearly 90% of articles used the quantitative approach to study organizational culture.
Second, most articles adopted the modern perspective towards the organization with only three and none
that took symbolic and post-modern perspectives respectively, and focused on individual(micro-level) and
organizational(macro-level) contributions with only one article involving societal(mega-level) contribution.
Third, most articles were interested in understanding organizational behavior or pursuing management
effectiveness, rather than engaging in future-oriented discourse surrounding organizational culture. Building
on the findings, in-depth discussions and recommendations for future research were presented.
