University museums face social demand according to the necessity of roles and responsibilities
as public institutions. Nowadays, museums in Korea are operating various cultural events including
education programs or education. However, what most curators agree on and point out commonly is
the lack of manpower, finances, and infrastructure, and among those, the most urgent problem is the
lack of manpower.
The public understanding and introduction of museum exhibits will lead to further value through
experience programs. The relics used for experience learning can bring about clearer explanation and
the value and understanding of cultural heritages.
PEP(Prehistoric Experience Programs) that can be operated in university museums can be said to
be the harmony between researchers equipped with specialized archaeological knowledge and local
residents. In particular, prehistoric experience will enhance local residents cultural recognition and
cultivate sound amateur archaeologists in that region. Also, it can be a good model to pursue popular
archaeology. Experience festivals with prehistoric times as their theme are finding and utilizing basic
items from archaeology.
The purpose of PEP is to integrate the play processes using experience and archaeology and history
with the theme of prehistoric culture. What is the most important is the connection with the relics
that a museum has. The value of life in prehistoric times which brings exhibition and experience,
education, and understanding through connectivity can be said to be very great.
Meanwhile, experience programs should be not operated by the university museum arbitrarily but
must have connection through building the network with education offices or related institutions.
About publicity, too, according to the network, it is needed to expand the complex system for the
experience program. And regarding the budgets, finances, and manpower, it will be needed to
overcome the limitations of university museums pursuing consortium types of projects by education
offices or autonomous entities.
