This study analyzed high school student’s practical teaching competence that influences student
engagement needed to improve creativity required by fourth industrial revolution.
The participants of this study were first and second grade students at a high school in Incheon.
169 questionnaires were used for analysis after eliminating incomplete responses. The correlation
analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted to analyze the practical teaching
competence affecting student engagement.
The results were as follows. First, practical teaching competence has a positive correlation with
student engagement. Second, the factors affecting the cognitive engagement of student engagement
were 'planning and organization', and the factors affecting emotional engagement were 'planning and
organization', 'communication', and 'sincerity and enthusiasm'. In addition, the factors affecting
behavioral engagement were 'planning and organization'.
Based on the results of this study, the importance of instructional learning design, plan to share
practical teaching competence of teachers, relationship between student engagement factors were
discussed in detail.
