본 연구의 목적은 신체 장애인의 알코올 의존 여부와 시간, 그리고 이들의 상호작용의 영향에 따른 우울의 종단적 변화 양상을 알아보는데 있다. 2006년부터 2008년까지 수집된 한국복지패널의 자료를 사용하여 2차분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 전체 대상자는 알코올 의존 집단(71명)과 비의존 집단(265명)으로 분류되었는데, 전체 대상자의 우울 수준은 시간이 지남에 따라 점차 감소하는 양상이었으며(시간 영향력), 두 집단 간 시간에 따른 우울 수준의 변화 양상은 유의미한 차이가 존재하였다(상호작용 영향력). 즉, 시간이 흐를수록 알코올 의존 집단 구성원의 우울 수준은 증가하는 반면, 비의존 집단에서는 감소하는 경향을 나타냈다. 따라서 본 연구 결과는 신체장애인의 우울 문제 개입 시 알코올 의존에 대한 사정 및 개입이 필요하다는 임상적 함의를 제시하였다.
The aim of this longitudinal study is to investigate how alcohol dependence affects depression among physically disabled people. We conducted secondary data analysis of Korean Welfare Panel Study and divided the group into alcohol dependent group and non-dependent group. This study found that both groups showed significantly decreased levels of depression over time (time effect). There is an interaction effect, reflecting the change of depression level has been significantly different over time between groups. Depression level of the non-dependent group has decreased, while that of the alcohol dependent group has increased over time. These findings indicate that alcohol prevention and treatment intervention should be provided for the physically disabled to improve their mental health status.
