This case study relates to a middle-aged couple who suffered from depression and stress due to the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. To improve marital relationship, the objective of counseling focused on selfdifferentiation from husband’s original family and good communication of husband and wife. Also, to measure the effect of treatment, marriage satisfaction of husband and wife was explored by using present measuring tools, and the dialogue analysis method by the session was used to identify gradual development of treatment process. From the results of a total 7 sessions, the husband came to be able to
differentiate himself and make functional communication, and the wife came to cope with depression and physical symptoms owing to the decrease of stress from the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law along with the change of marital relationship due to husband’s self- differentiation.
