This study investigated the effects of family art therapy on improving the sparse intra-family
communication and interactions of a family. Participants for this study were a family of three with few
talks among family members other than those needed for basic needs of the family.
Two instruments were used for this study. One was Lim\'s (2010) communication type scale, a modified
version of Song\'s (1985) scale and Lee\'s (1998) scale, both of which were based on Satir\'s theories. The
other was Kinetic Family Drawing to analyze the intra-family interactions and dynamics of the family.
These instruments were used at a pre, post, and follow-up test.
The findings of this study are as follows. First, the study found the effects of family art therapy on
improving the intra-family communication. Second, the study found the effects of family art therapy on
improving the intra-family interactions. These findings indicate that family art therapy was effective in
improving the intra-family communication and interactions. Since there have been few studies with this
theme despite the positive effects of family art therapy, continuous studies should be made.
