There are three representative studies on Gyeongju Arts Academy. It s Kim Pok-Gi s[Kim Bokgi] “The 60 Years Footprint of Gyeongju Artists”, No Tong-Ŭn s❲Noh, Dong-Eun] “Lee, Eui-sung, who is he?”, and Yi Ae-Sŏn s❲Lee Aeseon] “The Chronicle of Gyeongju Arts School in the Liberation Period”. The study by Kim Pok-Gi and Yi Ae-Sŏn is mostly limited to art, and the study by No Tong-Ŭn is limited to a musician Yi Hŏi-Sŏng❲Lee Eui-Sung] who has been involved in Gyeongju Arts Academy. This manuscript looked at the establishment of Gyeongju Arts Academy and the operation of the department of music. Although most of the department of art of Gyeongju Art Academy have been discovered, there is only one study on the art department by No Tong-Ŭn. But his research lacks overall objectivity and there is a serious problem.
Under the above circumstances, this study started. Fortunately, there has been a prior study of the establishment which helps to confirm. The purpose of this study is to correct what has been misinformed so far and to present new contents to understand correctly. In order to give objectivity to the research, I will present the contents of related articles on Gyeongju Arts Academy, which was introduced in the daily newspaper, and develop my thesis based on them. In addition to the existing wrong research, the revision was intended after review. The following is a summary of the new findings on the department of music of Gyeongju Arts Academy.
1) Initially, the main body of Gyeongju Arts Institute was Gyeongju Culture Association(chairman Choi Yun), and it was confirmed that Yi Chae-U and Chŏng Dŏk-Yŏng took the lead.
2) There are five professors, Yi Hŏi-Sŏng(Violin), Han Chun-Gil(Violin), Yi Ho-Sŏng(cello), Pak Chŏng-Yang(piano), Han Sun-Gak(vocal).
3) The students who first entered Gyeongju Arts Academy on May 5, 1946 are 35. Twelve of them can be named and their major can be found. They are Kim Chin-Ho(piano), Kim Hae-Hak(vocal), Pae Yun-Jo(piano), Son Chi-Ik(Violin), An Mu-Gŭn(piano), O Yŏng-Hak(vocal), Yi Sang-Don(piano), Yi Chong-Yong(vocal), Ch’ae Ch’an-Yong(vocal), Ch’oi Pyŏng-Lim(piano) Ch’oi Chong-Sŏk(piano), Hoang T’ae-Yŏn(cello).
4) The department of music of Gyeongju Arts Academy failed to operate normally in March 1948 due to the biggest reasons for ideological and financial problems since May 4, 1947(The Concert Celebrate the First Anniversary of Opening). As a result, It failed to produce graduates together on May 11. 1949 like the department of art.
5) The students remaining at the time of the new reopening by the Mansong Education Foundation(Mansong, Ch’oe Ch’an-Hae) on May 1, 1949 totaled 16. They broke up during the Korean War in 1950. In addition, Gyeongju Art Academy has become completely difficult to operate because of the department of music professors Yi Ho-Sŏng and Han Chun-Gil defected to North Korea.
