본 연구의 목적은 장애 및 장애위험 학생을 대상으로 실시한 데이터기반개별화(data-based individualization, DBI)의 특성과 학생의 학업성취도에 미치는 효과를 살펴보는데 있다. 이를 위하여 데이터기반개별화 연구의 일반적 특성 및 효과를 정리하고, 데이터기반개별화를 구성하는 요소인 진전도 모니터링, 교수, 교수적 의사결정, 그리고 교사교육에 대한 특성을 살펴보았다. 문헌 선정 기준을 만족하는 총 21편의 논문을 분석한 결과, DBI 연구는 주로 집중적인 개별화교수가 필요한 장애학생을 대상으로 실시되었으며, 기초학습영역(읽기, 쓰기, 수학)에서 학생들의 성취도를 유의하게 향상시키는 것으로 나타났다. DBI를 적용하는 동안 성취도에 대한 객관적인 정보를 제공하거나 교수적 수정에 적용할 수 있는 교수전략에 대한 정보를 제공했을 때, 교수적 수정의 질적 특성에 유의한 차이를 나타내며, 학생의 성취도도 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 데이터기반개별화에 대한 향후 연구 및 국내 특수교육 현장에의 적용에 주는 시사점에 대해 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to review a literature examining the characteristics and the effects of data-based individualization (DBI) on academic performance for students identified as at risk or having disabilities. General characteristics of DBI research and its effects on student performance and instructional structure were summarized. In addition, specific characteristics of DBI were summarized in terms of progress monitoring, intervention, instructional decision making, and teacher support. A total of 21 studies which met the inclusion criteria were reviewed. The majority of DBI research was conducted for students with disabilities who need the most intensive individualized instruction. It appears that DBI significantly improved student performance in reading, mathematics, and writing. There were significant differences in quality of instructional structure when teachers were provided additional information about student performance and instructional strategies when instructional changes were warranted, leading a significant improvement of student performance. Future directions for research and implications for special education in South Korea is discussed.
