The purpose of this study was to describe the procedures of using NVivo 10, a widely used computerassisted
qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) in educational research. Specifically, “How did ten
preservice teachers express their pedagogical content knowledges during the eight weeks of elementary school
physical education practicum?” was analyzed and described in detail by using NVivo 10. Open coding, axial
coding and selective coding (Strauss &Corbin, 1998) were used to form a paradigm model for the
improvement of elementary physical education practicum. Throughout these processes, NVivo 10 is an
excellent and trustworthy tool in studying elementary school physical education practicum.
