This study aims to analyze the appropriateness of the current state of elderly education in Korea in preparing for an aging society. Education for the aged is emerging as an important issue as one part of lifelong learning as the rate of global aging accelerates at a fast pace. The elderly population is facing increasing demands from society for academic qualifications as well as diverse knowledge and information. Yet due to its many limitations the current system falls short of satisfying the needs of the elderly population of today and if left unchanged the situation will only worsen in the future. This study also makes the following policy suggestions: a reorganization of laws on the topic of elderly education, clarification in regards to the the provision system of those laws, enhancing the quality of sectional education programs, systematic funding of educational institutions, the training of experts on elderly education, increasing the role of universities and bringing in more support from various foundations The ultimate objective of elderly education is to guarantee a better quality of life for the elderly population, to promote creative thinking, and create an atmosphere of voluntary learning.
