1. Purpose of the Study The purpose of this study is ⑴ to examine the theoretical background of the qualifications for the teaching profession, ⑵ to seek opinions on special qualification from college students, teachers, parents, and other townspeople, ⑶ to sample the desirable qualifications for teaching from the informants. 2. Methods of the Study ⑴ The informants used in this study were 2,800 people. They included 800 college students, 800 school teachers, 800 parents, and 400 townspeople living in Inchon, Korea. ⑵ The sample population were selected at random. ⑶ The research instrument was four kinds of questionnaires designed by the present researchers. ⑷ The treatment of data used in this study was both frequency in reaction and percentage. 3. Findings of the Study Based on the analysis of available data, the findings in this study are summarized as follows : ⑴ The qualifications for teaching require human qualities attaching importance to sincerity, morality, fairness, and responsibility. ⑵ They require physical and mental health attaching importance to the power of insight, judgment, creativity, inquiry, and execution. ⑶ They require reliability attaching importance to straightforwardness, endeavor, planning quality, and consistency. ⑷ They require teaching capability attaching importance to intelligence, knowledge in the major field, the capacity as a student leader. ⑸ They require kindhearted and inspiring human feelings. ⑹ They require human love attaching importance to consideration, services, kindness, affection, and deference.
