인간에게 있어서 성문제는 중요하다. 특히 평균수명이 늘어나 노년기가 청․장년기만큼이나 늘어나고 노인들의 건강상태가 좋으며, 생활수준의 향상으로 삶의 즐거움을 중요시하는 현대사회에 있어서는 노인의 성문제가 노인 문제 중의 하나로 부상하고 있다. 더욱이 노인의 성에 관련된 문제점들은 현재 시점에만 국한된 것이 아니고 장차 노인이 되면 누구에게나 다가올 우리 모두의 문제이므로 보다 큰 관심을 갖지 않으면 안 될 것이다. 따라서 노인 자신은 물론, 우리 사회 전반적으로 노인의 성에 대한 올바른 인식의 전환이 필요하다. 노인들의 성에 대한 수용적인 사회적인 분위기, 노인의성교육 프로그램과 노인 성관련 전문 프로그램의 활성화, 노인 성 상담, 노인 복지 차원의 지지와 지원을 통하여 노인의 성 문제를 실질적으로 해결하게 된다면 노인복지의 목표의 일부분을 성취할 수 있을 것이다. 이제는 시대적 변화에 발맞추어 노인의 성문제를 노인 자신과 가족들뿐 만 아니라 사회적 차원으로 새롭게 접근하고, 각 노인 관련기관이나 노인시설 등 많은 사회단체들이 적극적으로 참여하여 이들 문제를 실질적으로 해결해 나가야 할 것이다. 미래지향적인 방향에서 긍정적이고 구체적인 방안에 대한 지속적인 모색과 실천적 노력은 노인의 삶의 질적 향상에 이바지할 것이다.
The rapid change of modern society is influencing the elderly\'s life in many ways. As the population of the aged increases rapidly, the ageing society becomes a reality in our country. As the life expectancy is extended, and the elderly become in good health physically owing to promotion of the quality of life, the sexual problems of the elderly become one of social issues. These problems of the elderly are due to discord between the spouses and alienation from families and social indifference as ever. Accordingly a sexual relationship with one\'s spouse is regarded more important than before. Not only the elderly couples but also the number of the single elderly without a spouse by divorce or bereavement are also interested in sexual matters increasingly. The purpose of this study is to identify the sexual problems of the elderly in the ageing society and the alternatives in the context of social welfare, such as the development of the social services program with other social networks and the establishment of the remarriage agencies for the aged, continuing education and leisure and recreation programs in community offices, public halls for the elderly in the districts, religious institutions, private clubs, and so on. We should seek to offer many opportunities and places for the social meeting among the single elderly. Then the elderly can overcome their physical and emotional difficulties by making their conditions be able to have the sexual life, and they are expected to enjoy their life with more satisfaction through the various ways in the respect of social work for the elderly.
