Role of Stretch-Activated Channels in Stretch-Induced Changes of Electrical Activity
JaeBoumYoum, Su-HyunJo, ChaeHunLeem, Won-KyungHo, YungE. 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages

of the action potential (AP) was significantly changed by stretch in the model simulation. The duration was decreased at initial fast phase of repolarization (AP duration at 20% repolarization level from 3.7 to 2.5 ms) and increased at late slow phase of repolarization (AP duration at 90% repolarization level from 62 to 178 ms). The resting potential was depolarized from 75 to 61 mV. This mathematical model of SACs may quantitatively predict changes in cardiomyocytes by mechanical... -
A Simple and Accurate Method for Determining Antioxidative Activity

TBA method and the peroxide value from sodium thiosulfate titration. All methods showed significant and dose-dependent enhancement of antioxidative activity by adding ascorbic acid, quercetin, ginseng, or gingko biloba extract. The result of redox potential using galvanic cell showed the smallest standard deviation and took the shortest time among the three methods. Therefore, the antioxidative potential of chemical substances and herbal extracts can be determined simply, directly and accurately... -

phase to the anagen phase in C3H mice. Furthermore, we found that SPELA 707 enhanced the hair density in subjects with hair loss and also promoted the conversion of hair into the anagen phase in subjects with androgenetic alopecia. In addition, hair growth promotion effect of SPELA 707 occurred through inhibition of steroid 5α-reductase activity, which is known to block hair growth. Taken together, these results suggest that SPELA 707 has a potential to be used for the treatment of hair loss. -
Normal Anxiety, Fear and Depression-related Behaviors in Mice Lacking α-Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide
JonghoLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.6 4 299-304 (6 pages)
Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) expressing neurons are distributed widely throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems. Due to its distribution and pharmacological studies, CGRP has been implicated to be involved in anxiety, fear and depression. In this study, αCGRP-knockout mice were used to assess the consequences of removing this neuropeptide to the mice behaviors. αCGRP-knockout mice performed equally as well as wild type mice in the light-dark transition test and in the... -
Electrical Stimulation Can Facilitate Vestibular Compensation Following Unilateral Labyrinthectomy in Rats
ByungRimPark, JinOkKim, MinSunKim, MoonYoungLee, JaeHyoKim, Yuan-ZheJin, MyungAeChoi 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.2 2 123-131 (9 pages)
To investigate the effects of electrical stimulation on vestibular compensation, which is the recovery of vestibular symptoms following unilateral labyrinthectomy (UL), intermittent electrical stimulation was applied to the injured vestibular portion in Sprague-Dawley rats. Vestibuloocular and vestibulospinal reflexes, electrical activity and expression of c-Fos protein in medial vestibular nuclei (MVN) were measured with time following UL. Spontaneous nystagmus occurred with frequency of... -
Relatoinship between Sarcoplasmic Reticular Calcium Release and Na+-Ca2+ Exchange in the Rat Myocardial Contraction

(26 Na-0 Ca) buffer application. These enhancements were blocked by caffeine pretreatment with postnatal age-dependent intensities. In the isolated rat ventricular myocytes, stimulation with the voltage protocol roughly mimicked action potential generated a large inward current which was partially blocked by nifedipine or Na current inhibition. 0 Ca application suppressed the inward current by 39⁑4% while the current was further suppressed after 0 Na-0 Ca application by 53⁑3%.... -
The Role of Somatostatin in Nociceptive Processing of the Spinal Cord in Anesthetized Cats

increased those to the cold stimulation. In the responses to the electric stimuli of sciatic nerve, Aδ-nociceptive response was increased by SOM, while C-nociceptive response was decreased. On the other hand, MOR inhibited the dorsal horn cell responses to all the noxious stimuli. From the above results, it is concluded that SOM suppresses the transmission of nociceptive heat and mechanical stimuli, especially via C-fiber, while it facilitates those of nociceptive cold stimuli via Aδ-fiber. -
Involvement of Spontaneously Formed Cyclic Nucleotides in Cat Gastric Muscle Relaxation
Sang-SooSim, Hye-JungBaek, Duck-JooRhie, Shin-HeeYoon, SangJuneHahn, Yang-HyeokJo, Myung-SukKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 5 275-282 (8 pages)
Muscle strips and muscle cells from cat stomach were used to investigate whether spontaneously formed cyclic nucleotides were involved in the inhibition of gastric smooth muscle contraction. A phosphodiesterase inhibitor, 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX), increased the levels of both cyclic GMP (cGMP) and cyclic AMP (cAMP) in resting state cells, while decreasing acetylcholine-induced muscle contraction. Under the influence of IBMX, SQ22536, an adenylyl cyclase inhibitor and methylene blue, a... -

ganglion (DRG) cells in mice. Mice were injected with either control sera from healthy adults or ALS sera from 18 patients with ALS of sporadic form, for three days. Miniature end plate potential (MEPP) and nerve-evoked end plate potential (EPP) were measured using intracellular recording technique and the quantal content was determined. Single isolated DRG cells were voltage-clamped with the whole-cell configuration and membrane currents were recorded. Sera from 14 of 18 ALS patients caused a... -
Spontaneous Electrical Activity in Cerebellar Purkinje Neurons of Postnatal Rats
SangChaeNam 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 12 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.4 2 355-366 (12 pages)
Although cerebellar Purkinje cells display spontaneous electrical activity in vivo and in slice experiments, the mechanism of the spontaneous activity generation has not been clearly understood. The aim of this study was to investigate whether cerebellar Purkinje cells of postnatal rats generate spontaneous electrical activity without synaptic inputs. Dissociated cerebellar Purkinje cells were used for reducing synaptic inputs in the present study. Cerebellar Purkinje cells with dendrites were...
