The Effect of NO Donor on Contraction, Cytosolic Ca2+ Level and Ionic Currents in Guinea-pig Ileal Smooth Muscle
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.1 5 33-40 (8 pages)
This study was designed to clarify the mechanism of the inhibitory action of a nitric oxide (NO) donor, 3-morpholino-sydnonimine (SIN-1), on contraction, cytosolic Ca2 level ([Ca2]i), and ionic currents in guinea-pig ileum. SIN-1 (0.01∼100μM) inhibited 25 mM KCl- or histamine (10μM)-induced contraction in a concentration-dependent manner. SIN-1 reduced both the 25 mM KCl- and the histamine-stimulated increases in muscle tension in parallel with decreased [Ca2]i. Using... -
Thyroid Hormone-Induced Alterations of Ryanodine and Dihydropyridine Receptor Protein Expression in Rat Heart
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 11 329-337 (9 pages)
Thyroid hormone-induced cellular dysfunctions may be associated with changes in the intracellular Ca2 concentration. The ryanodine receptor, a Ca2 release channel of the SR, is responsible for the rapid release of Ca2 that activates cardiac muscle contraction. In the excitation-contaction coupling cascade, activation of ryanodine receptors is initiated by the activity of sarcolemmal Ca2 channels, the dihydropyridine receptors. In hyperthyroidism left ventricular... -
Assessment of Flavin-containing Monooxygenase (FMO) Activity by Determining Urinary Ratio of Theobromine and Caffeine in a Korean Population after Drinking a Cup of Coffee
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.2 11 207-213 (7 pages)
To examine individual variation in drug metabolism catalyzed by flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO), 179 Korean volunteers' urinary molar concentration ratio of theobromine (TB) and caffeine (CA) was determined. Their urine was collected for 1 hr (between 4 and 5 hrs) after they drank a cup of coffee containing 115 mg CA and analyzed by an HPLC system. The lowest TB/CA ratio obtained was 0.40, the highest ratio was 15.17 (38-fold difference), and the median ratio for all subjects was 1.87.... -
The Mechanism of t-Butylhydroperoxide-Induced Apoptosis in IMR- 32 Human Neuroblastoma Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.1 3 19-28 (10 pages)
Apoptosis has been implicated in the pathophysiological mechanisms of various neurodegenerative diseases. In a variety of cell types, oxidative stress has been demonstrated to play an important role in the apoptotic cell death. However, the exact mechanism of oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in neuronal cells is not known. In this study, we induced oxidative stress in IMR-32 human neuroblastoma cells with tert- butylhydroperoxide (TBHP), which was confirmed by significantly reduced... -
Hydroxyl Radical-Mediated Commitment of HL-60 Cells to Differentiation Modulation of Differentiation Process by Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.3 12 369-376 (8 pages)
This report shows that hydroxyl radical, generated by a Fenton reaction involving adenosine 5'-diphosphate/Fe2+ complex (5-15 ㄍM) and H2O2 (2 ㄍM), induced differentiation of HL-60 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. This is evidenced by the increases in 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate- and fMLP-stimulated superoxide production capability. The cells exposed to hydroxyl radical for defined periods (24∼96 hr) continued to differentiate even after the hydroxyl radical... -
Correlation Between Electrical Activity of Type I Neuron and c-Fos Expression in the Medial Vestibular Nuclei Following Unilateral Labyrinthectomy in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.5 5 505-513 (9 pages)
To search the correlations between electrical activity and c-Fos expression in the process of vestibular compensation, we examined the changes of those two parameters in the medial vestibular nuclei (MVN) of unilaterally labyrinthectomized (ULX) rats. Spontaneous nystagmus with fast component toward the intact side disappeared gradually within 48 hours. Fourty eight hours after ULX, directional preponderance of the eye movement induced by sinusoidal rotation of the whole body which represents... -
The Influence of N6-cyclopentyladenosine and Magnesium on Norepinephrine Release in the Rat Hippocampus
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.2 3 135-142 (8 pages)
As it has been reported that the depolarization-induced norepinephrine (NE) release is modulated by activation of presynaptic A1-adenosine heteroreceptor and various lines of evidence indicate that A2-adenosine receptor also presents in hippocampus, and that the adenosine effect is magnesium dependent, the present study was undertaken to delineate the role of adenosine receptors in the modulation of hippocampal NE release. Slices from the rat hippocampus were equilibrated with [3H]-NE and the... -
Inhibition of Phospholipase A2 Diminishes the Acute Alveolar Injury Induced by Interleukin-1
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.1 9 71-78 (8 pages)
In an attempt to investigate the role of phospholipase A2(PLA2) in interleukin-1 (IL-1) induced acute lung injury, mepacrine was tried to inhibit PLA2 in IL-1 induced ARDS rats. For confirmation of acute lung injury by IL-1, and to know the role of neutrophils in this injury, lung leak index, lung myeloperoxidase(MPO), number of neutrophils and protein content in the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and wet lung weight were measured. At the same time lung PLA2 was measured to know the effect of...
