Removal of chromium from tannery wastewater by electrosorption on carbon prepared from peach stones: effect of applied potential
Mounir Ziati, Fariza Khemmari, Mohamed Kecir, Sabir Hazourli 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 10 81-85 (5 pages)
The objective of this study is the removal of chromium from tannery wastewater by electrosorption on carbon prepared from lignocellulosic natural residue "peach stones' thermally treated. The followed steps for obtaining coal in chronological order were: cleaning, drying, crushing and finally its carbonization at 900°C. The characterization of the carbon material resulted in properties comparable to those of many coals industrially manufactured. The study of the dynamic adsorption of chromium... -
Effect of carbonization temperature on crystalline structure and properties of isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber
Jung Dam Kim, Jae-Seung Roh, Myung-Soo Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 6 51-60 (10 pages)
Isotropic pitch-based fibers produced from coal tar pitch with the melt-blowing method were carbonized at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1600oC to investigate their crystalline structure and physical properties as a function of the carbonization temperature. The in-plane crystallite size (La) of the carbonized pitch fiber from X-ray diffraction increased monotonously by increasing the carbonization temperature resulting in a gradual increase in the electrical conductivity from 169 to 3800... -
Synthesize multi-walled carbon nanotubes via catalytic chemical vapour deposition method on Fe-Ni bimetallic catalyst supported on kaolin
Aliyu A, Abdulkareem AS, Kovo AS, Abubakre OK, Tijani JO, Kariim I 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 18 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 5 33-50 (18 pages)
In this study, Fe-Ni bimetallic catalyst supported on kaolin is prepared by a wet impregnation method. The effects of mass of kaolin support, pre-calcination time, pre-calcination temperature and stirring speed on catalyst yields are examined. Then, the optimal supported Fe-Ni catalyst is utilised to produce multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) using catalytic chemical vapour deposition (CCVD) method. The catalysts and MWCNTs prepared using the optimal conditions are characterized using high... -
Density functional theory study of CH4 and CO2 adsorption by fluorinated graphene
Doh Gyu Hwang, Euigyung Jeong, Seung Geol Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 13 81-85 (5 pages)
Phenomena related to global warming have been of particular interest among researchers, strongly encouraging them to identify various methods of adsorbing contributing gases, such as CH4 and CO2 [1,2]. Many adsorbents have been widely proposed and studied to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and protect the environment [3,4]. Carbon-based materials for adsorption are an intriguing subject owing to their very high specific surface area, low weight, and elasticity [5,6]. Among various... -
Effect of acid catalysts on carbonization temperatures for ordered mesoporous carbon materials

in many fields including catalysis, adsorption and energy storage, due to their high porosity, high surface area and controllable regular pore-structure [1-6]. Successful synthesis pathways for obtaining OMC materials include the direct synthesis of OMC materials through the organic-organic self-assembly method (soft templating process) and nano-replication of OMC materials from mesoporous silica templates (hard templating process) [7-11]. The direct synthesis method is suitable for large-scale... -
Preparation of gold nanoparticle/single-walled carbon nanotube nanohybrids using biologically programmed peptide for application of flexible transparent conducting films
MinHo Yang, Bong Gill Choi 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 4 26-31 (6 pages)
In this study, we report a general method for preparation of a one-dimensional (1D) arrangement of Au nanoparticles on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) using biologically programmed peptides as structure-guiding 1D templates. The peptides were designed by the combination of glutamic acid (E), glycine (G), and phenylalanine (F) amino acids; peptides efficiently debundled and exfoliated the SWNTs for stability of the dispersion and guided the growth of the array of Au nanoparticles in a... -
Nanoporous carbon synthesized from grass for removal and recovery of hexavalent chromium
Shahin A. Pathan, Nancy S. Pandita 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 2 10-18 (9 pages)
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Brunauer?Emmett?Teller, transmission electron microscopy, and Energy Dispersive X-ray microanalysis. Acid functionalized nanoporous carbon was explored for use in removal of toxic Cr(VI) ions from aqueous media. An adsorption study was done as a function of initial concentration, pH, contact time, temperature, and interfering ions. The experimental equilibrium data fits well to Langmuir isotherm model with maximum monolayer adsorption... -
Adsorption capability of activated carbon synthesized from coconut shell
Md Shariful Islam, Bee Chin Ang, Samira Gharehkhani, Amalina Binti, Muhammad Afifi 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 1 1-9 (9 pages)
Activated carbon was synthesized from coconut shells. The Brunauer, Emmett and Teller surface area of the synthesized activated carbon was found to be 1640 m2/g with a pore volume of 1.032 cm3/g. The average pore diameter of the activated carbon was found to be 2.52 nm. By applying the size-strain plot method to the X-ray diffraction data, the crystallite size and the crystal strain was determined to be 42.46 nm and 0.000489897, respectively, which indicate a perfect crystallite structure. The... -
KOH-activated graphite nanofibers as CO2 adsorbents
Hui Yuan, Long-Yue Meng, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 12 99-103 (5 pages)
Porous carbons have attracted much attention for their novel application in gas storage. In this study, porous graphite nano-fiber (PGNFs)-based graphite nano fibers (GNFs) were prepared by KOH activation to act as adsorbents. The GNFs were activated with KOH by changing the GNF/KOH weight ratio from 0 through 5 at 900°C. The effects of the GNF/ KOH weight ratios on the pore structures were also addressed with scanning electron microscope and N2 adsorption/desorption measurements. We found that...
