Role of Stretch-Activated Channels in Stretch-Induced Changes of Electrical Activity
JaeBoumYoum, Su-HyunJo, ChaeHunLeem, Won-KyungHo, YungE. 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.1 6 33-41 (9 pages)
We developed a cardiac cell model to explain the phenomenon of mechano-electric feedback (MEF), based on the experimental data with rat atrial myocytes. It incorporated the activity of ion channels, pumps, exchangers, and changes of intracellular ion concentration. Changes in membrane excitability and Ca2 transients could then be calculated. In the model, the major ion channels responsible for the stretch-induced changes in electrical activity were the stretch-activated channels (SACs).... -
A Possible Role of Kainate Receptors in C2C12 Skeletal Myogenic Cells

Ca2 influx appears to be important for triggering myoblast fusion. It remains, however, unclear how Ca2 influx rises prior to myoblast fusion. Recently, several studies suggested that NMDA receptors may be involved in Ca2 mobilization of muscle, and that Ca2 influx is mediated by NMDA receptors in C2C12 myoblasts. Here, we report that other types of ionotropic glutamate receptors, non-NMDA receptors (AMPA and KA receptors), are also involved in Ca2 influx in... -
Stretch-activated K+ Channels in Rat Atrial Myocytes
JaeBoumYoum 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.6 8 341-318 (8 pages)
Mechanical stimuli to the cardiac myocytes initiate many biochemical and physiological events. Stretch-activated cation channels have been suggested to mediate these events. In this study, cell-attached and inside-out excised-patch clamp methods were used to identify stretch-activated cation channels in adult rat atrial myocytes. Channel openings were increased in cell-attached configuration when negative pressure was applied to the pipette, and also in inside-out excised patches by negative... -
Electrophysiological and Morphological Classification of Inhibitory Interneurons in Layer II/III of the Rat Visual Cortex

Interneuron diversity is one of the key factors to hinder understanding the mechanism of cortical neural network functions even with their important roles. We characterized inhibitory interneurons in layer II/III of the rat primary visual cortex, using patch-clamp recording and confocal reconstruction, and classified inhibitory interneurons into fast spiking (FS), late spiking (LS), burst spiking (BS), and regular spiking non-pyramidal (RSNP) neurons according to their electrophysiological... -
The Substates with Mutants That Negatively Charged Aspartate in Position 172 Was Replaced with Positive Charge in Murine Inward Rectifier Potassium Channel (Murine Kir2.1)

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.5 4 267-273 (7 pages)
at substate with D172R (0.79) was similar to that with R-N dimer (0.82). In the contrary to ROMK1, positive charge as well as negative charge in position 172 can induce the substate rather than block the pore in murine Kir2.1. The single channel properties of the mutant, that is, unitary I-V relation, the voltage dependence of the mean open time and relative occupancy of the substates and the increased latency to the first opening, explain the intrinsic gating observed in whole cell recordings. -
Antagonists of NMDA Receptor, Calcium Channel and Protein Kinase C Potentiate Inhibitory Action of Morphine on Responses of Rat Dorsal Horn Neuron

The present study was designed to examine whether the co-application of morphine with Ca2 channel antagonist (Mn2, verapamil), N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist (2-amino-5-phosphonopentanoic acid[AP5], Mg2) or protein kinase C inhibitor (H-7) causes the potentiation of morphine- induced antinociceptive action by using an in vivo electrophysiological technique. A single iontophoretic application of morphine or an antagonist alone induced weak inhibition of wide... -
Responses of Inferior Olive Neurons to Stimulation of Semicircular Canals. II. Vertical Semicircular Canalss
Sah-HoonPark, JongSeongPark, JinSoonPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.4 1 193-198 (6 pages)
In the present study, the vestibularly evoked activity of inferior olive (IO) neurons was examined to investigate the vertical vestibular information transmitted through the vestibulo-olivo-cerebellar climbing fiber pathway. The extracellular recording was made in 74 neurons of the IO of cats, while animals were sinusoidally rotated. Most of vestibularly activated IO neurons responded to the vertical rotation (roll) test and were found in or near the β subnuclei (IOβ). The vestibular IO... -
Intrinsic Gating in Inward Rectifier Potassium Channels (Kir2.1) with Low Polyamine Affinity Generated by Site Directed Mutagenesis
ISo, , IAshmole, HSoh, CSPark, PJSpencer, MLeyl, PRStanfield, 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 12 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.3 3 131-142 (12 pages)
We have studied mutant forms of Kir2.1 in which an aspartate residue (D172), important for gating by intracellular polyamines, is replaced by one of three basic residues (Arg, Lys or His). Such channels are highly selective for K+, but show inward rectification that is a shallow function of voltage compared with that found in wild type. This inward rectification occurs with a reduced affinity for spermine and persists in the absence of polyamines. Though the unitary current-voltage relation... -
Mechanism of Glutamate-induced [Ca2+]i Increase in Substantia Gelatinosa Neurons of Juvenile Rats

The glutamate receptors (GluRs) are key receptors for modulatory synaptic events in the central nervous system. It has been reported that glutamate increases the intracellular Ca2 concentration ([Ca2]i) and induces cytotoxicity. In the present study, we investigated whether the glutamate-induced [Ca2]i increase was associated with the activation of ionotropic (iGluR) and metabotropic GluRs (mGluR) in substantia gelatinosa neurons, using spinal cord slice of juvenile rats... -
4-Aminopyridine Inhibits the Large-conductance Ca2+-activated K+ Channel (BKCa) Currents in Rabbit Pulmonary Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.1 5 25-28 (4 pages)
Ion channel inhibitors are widely used for pharmacological discrimination between the different channel types as well as for determination of their functional role. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) could affect the large conductance Ca2-activated K channel (BKCa) currents using perforated-patch or cell-attached configuration of patch-clamp technique in the rabbit pulmonary arterial smooth muscle. Application of 4-AP reversibly inhibited the...
