Conditioned Medium from Dying Smooth Muscle Cell Induced Apoptotic Death
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.6 1 315-322 (8 pages)
of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) had a pathological pertinence. Conditioned media obtained from rat aorta smooth muscle cell (SMC) that were induced death by expressing FADD in the absence of tetracycline (FADD-SMC) triggered death of normal SMC. DNA fragmentation and caspase-3 activation were observed in dying SMC by conditioned media. FADD-SMC showed transcriptional activation of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. Conditioned medium contained TNF-α, indicating secretion of the cytokine from... -
Multiple Regulation of Roundabout (Robo) Phosphorylation in a Heterologous Cell System
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.2 7 111-115 (5 pages)
Roundabout (Robo) is the transmembrane receptor for slit, the neuronal guidance molecule. In this study, the tyrosine phosphorylation of Robo was observed in Robo-transfected human embryonic kidney cells and developing rat brains, and found to be increased by the treatment with protein kinase A activator, forskolin. In contrast, protein kinase C activation by phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate decreased the phosphorylation of Robo. Intracellular calcium was required for the tyrosine... -
Curcumin Attenuates Glial Cell Activation But Cannot Suppress Hippocampal CA3 Neuronal Cell Death in i.c.v. Kanic Acid Injection Model
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 4 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.6 3 307-310 (4 pages)
(ROS) play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of excitotoxic death by KA. Curcumin has been known to possess anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities. In this study, the effects of curcumin on KA induced hippocampal cell death, reactive gliosis and biochemical changes in reactive glia were investigated by immunohistochemical methods. Our data demonstrated that curcumin attenuated KA-induced astroglial and microglial activation although it did not protect KA-induced hippocampal cell death. -
Differentiation Induction of Dendritic Cell Phenotypes from Human Leukemic Cell Lines
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.1 11 79-86 (8 pages)
cells (DCs) are important antigen-presenting cells in the development of antileukemic T-cell responses. In this study, we investigated the strategies to overcome ATRA resistance of APL cells by inducing the differentiation of DCs from human leukemic cell lines for the developtment of adoptive immunotherapy. CD83 was used as a mature DC marker in this study and the expression of CD83 mRNA was determined by RT-PCR method. The promyelocytic leukemic cell line HL-60, B lymphoblast cell lines RPMI 76... -
Selective Cytotoxicity of a Novel Platinum(II) Coordination Complex on Human Bladder Cancer Cell Lines and Normal Kidney Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.2 11 159-167 (9 pages)
We have synthesized a novel platinum(II) coordination complex containing cis-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (DACH) as a carrier ligand and 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) as a leaving group. In addition, nitrate was added to improve the water-solubility. A new series of [Pt(cis-DACH)(DCE)]·2NO3(PC) was evaluated for its cytotoxic activity on T-24 and J-82 human bladder carcinoma cells and normal primary cultured kidney cells. PC has demonstrated high levels of cytotoxicity against T-24 and J-82 cells. The... -
The Role of K+ Channels on Spontaneous Action Potential in Rat Clonal Pituitary GH3 Cell Line
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages

of spontaneous action potential (SAP) were investigated using whole-cell variation of patch clamp techniques under current- and voltage-clamp recording conditions in rat clonal pituitary GH3 cells. Heterogeneous pattern of SAP activities was changed into more regular mode with elongation of activity duration and afterhyperpolarization by treatment of TEA (10 mM). Under this condition, exposure of the class III antiarrhythmic agent E-4031 (5μM) to GH3 cells hardly affected SAP activities. On the... -
Effects of Exogenous ATP on Calcium Mobilization and Cell Proliferation in C6 Glioma Cell
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.4 3 419-425 (7 pages)
increases in cell proliferation were observed at 2, 3, and 4 days after ATP was added. Stimulated cell proliferation was also observed with adenosine at days 2 and 3. This cell proliferation was significantly inhibited by the treatment with suramin. Ionomycin also stimulated cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner. In conclusion, we suggest that extracellular ATP stimulates C6 glioma cell proliferation via intracellular free calcium mobilization mediated by purinoceptor. -
8 Pages
9 75-82 (8 pages)
