The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.4 4 195-200 (6 pages)
Ghrelin is a newly discovered peptide, which is released from the stomach and neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARC), and potently stimulates growth hormone release and food intake. In the present study, we investigated the effect of ghrelin on [Ca2]i in thyroid FRTL-5 cells. Ghrelin (5 nM) increased [Ca2]i and TSH (1 unit/l) had an additive effect on [Ca2]i when extracellular normal solution was 1.1mM Ca2 containing Coon's modified Ham's F12 medium. When... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.3 4 141-146 (6 pages)
Soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptors (SNARE) proteins, composed of two presynaptic membrane proteins [synaptosomal-associated protein of 25 kDa (SNAP-25) and syntaxin] and a presynaptic vesicular protein [vesicle-associated membrane protein (VAMP)], serve as a core of exocytotic fusion machinery, which can be affected by ischemia. Synaptic protein in core region, striatum and cortex has been shown to alter after focal ischemia, however, little is known in... -

reperfusion, significantly improved coronary flow, left ventricular developed pressure (P<0.001), and the maximal rate of development of left ventricular developed pressure (P<0.001), compared with ischemic/reperfused hearts perfused with PMNs in the absence of amrinone. In addition, amrinone significantly reduced myeloperoxidase activity by 50.8%, indicating decreased PMNs infiltration (p<0.001). Superoxide radical and hydrogen peroxide production were also significantly reduced in fMLP- and... -
Postischemic Treatment with Aminoguanidine Inhibits Peroxynitrite Production in the Peroxynitrite Production in the Rat Hippocampus Following Transient Forebrain Ischemia
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages

Transient forebrain ischemia results in the delayed neuronal death in the CA1 area of the hippocampus. The present study was performed to determine effects of aminoguanidine, a selective iNOS inhibitor, on the generation of peroxynitrite and delayed neuronal death occurring in the hippocampus following transient forebrain ischemia. Transient forebrain ischemia was produced in the conscious rats by four-vessel occlusion for 10 min. Treatment with aminoguanidine (100 mg/kg or 200 mg/kg, i.p.) or... -
Effects of Dopamine on Intracellular pH in Opossum Kidney Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.3 11 187-191 (5 pages)
Na/H exchanger (NHE) has a critical role in regulation of intracellular pH (pHi) in the renal proximal tubular cells. It has recently been shown that dopamine inhibits NHE in the renal proximal tubules. Nevertheless, there is a dearth of information on the effects of long-term (chronic) dopamine treatment on NHE activities. This study was performed to elucidate the pHi regulatory mechanisms during the chronic dopamine treatments in renal proximal tubular OK cells. The resting pHi... -
Neuronal Activity of the Vestibular Nuclei Following Acute Hypotension in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.4 5 199-206 (8 pages)
The role of peripheral vestibular receptors in acute hypotension was investigated in anesthetized rats. Acute hypotension was induced by either intravenous infusion of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) or by experimental hemorrhage, and electrical activity and expression of cFos-like immunoreactive (cFL) protein were measured in the medial vestibular nuclei (MVN). Blood pressure decreased proportionately to the does of intravenous SNP and to the volume of the hemorrhage. Blood pressure decreased 10,... -
Role of Calmodulin in the Generation of Reactive Oxygen Species and Apoptosis Induced by Tamoxifen in HepG2 Human Hepatoma Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.4 3 187-192 (6 pages)
Tamoxifen, an antiestrogen, has previously been shown to induce apoptosis in HepG2 human hepatoblastoma cells through activation of the pathways independent of estrogen receptors, i.e., intracellular Ca2 increase and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, the mechanism of tamoxifen to link increased intracellular Ca2 to ROS generation is currently unknown. Thus, in this study we investigated the possible involvement of calmodulin, a Ca2 activated protein, and... -
Electrical Stimulation Can Facilitate Vestibular Compensation Following Unilateral Labyrinthectomy in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages

of ischemia (I) (20 min) and reperfusion (R) (45 min). Administration of C1 INH (5 mg/Kg) to I/R hearts in the presence of PMNs (100⁓106) and homologous plasma improved coronary flow and preserved cardiac contractile function (p<0.001) in comparison to those I/R hearts receiving only vehicle. In addition, C1 INH significantly (p<0.001) reduced PMN accumulation in the ischemic myocardium as evidenced by an attenuation in myeloperoxidase activity. These findings demonstrate the C1 INH is a...
