Effects of PCB Congeners in Rodent Neuronal Cells in Culture
Sun-YoungKimJae-HoYang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.1 2 9-16 (8 pages)
We attempted to analyze the mechanism of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-induced neurotoxicity and identify the target molecules in the neuronal cells for PCBs.Since the developing neuron is particularly sensitive to PCB-induced neurotoxicity, we isolated cerebellar granule cells derived from 7-day old Sprague Dawley (SD) rats and grew cells in culture for additional 7 days to mimic PND-14 conditions. Only non-coplanar PCBs at a high dose showed a significant increase of total protein kinase C... -
Effects of NMDA, AMPA and Kainate on the Release of Acetylcholine in Rat Hippocampal and Striatal Slices

on basal and electrically-evoked release of acetylcholine (ACh) from the rat hippocampal and striatal slices which were preincubated with [3H]choline. Unexpectedly, the basal and evoked ACh release were not affected at all by the treatment with NMDA (3∼100μM), AMPA (1∼100μM) or kainate (1∼100μM) in hippocampal slices. However, in striatal slices, under the Mg2-free medium, 30μM NMDA increased the basal ACh release with significant decrease of the electrically- evoked releases. The... -
The Role of BF-7 on Neuroprotection and Enhancement of Cognitive Function

report here that BDE significantly attenuated Aβ-induced apoptosis through the reduction of ROS accumulation, and diminished caspase-like protease activity. Moreover, the memory index and memory preservation, and attentative concentration of BDE treated group for 1 month were significantly improved, in contrast to the case of placebo control treated with DHA and EPA. This result represent that the BF-7 play significant positive role on learning memory. Taken together, our result suggested the... -
Inhibitory Modulation of 5-Hydroxytryptamine on Corticostriatal Synaptic Transmission in Rat Brain Slice
SeJoonChoi, WonSoonChung, Ki-JungKim, Ki-WugSung, 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

cortex as well as an extensive serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) input from raphe nuclei. In the present study, the effects of 5-HT to modulate synaptic transmission were studied in the rat corticostriatal brain slice using in vitro extracellular recording technique. Synaptic responses were evoked by stimulation of cortical glutamatergic inputs on the corpus callosum and recorded in the dorsal striatum. 5-HT reversibly inhibited coticostriatal glutamatergic synaptic transmission in a... -
Influence of Tacrine on Catecholamine Secretion in the Perfused Rat Adrenal Gland
Seok-JeongJang, Won-HoYang, Dong-YoonLim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.4 6 207-214 (8 pages)
The present study was designed to clarify whether tacrine affects the release of catecholamines (CA) from the isolated perfused model of rat adrenal gland or not and to elucidate the mechanism of its action. Tacrine (3⁓105∼3⁓104 M) perfused into an adrenal vein for 60 min inhibited CA secretory responses evoked by ACh (5.32⁓103 M), DMPP (a selective neuronal nicotinic agonist, 104 M for 2 min) and McN-A-343 (a selective muscarinic M1-agonist,... -
Muscarine M2 Receptor-mediated Presynaptic Inhibition of GABAergic Transmission in Rat Meynert Neurons
Il-SungJangNorioAkaike 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 1 63-70 (8 pages)
of GABAergic spontaneous miniature inhibitory postsynaptic currents (mIPSCs) by the activation of muscarine receptors was investigated in mechanically dissociated rat nucleus basalis of the Meynert neurons using the conventional whole-cell patch recording configuration. Muscarine (10μM) reversibly and concentration-dependently decreased mIPSC frequency without affecting the current amplitude distribution. Muscarine action on GABAergic mIPSCs was completely blocked by 1μM methoctramine, a... -
Differentiation of Neuroepithelial Progenitor Cells Implanted into Newborn Rat Brain Striatum

investigate the differentiation of neuronal progenitor cells after transplantation into the neonatal rat forebrain striatum. Primary cultured progenitor cells were labeled with 3,3'-dioctadecycloxacarbonyl- amine perchlorate (DiO). DiO labeled progenitor cells were implanted into neonatal rat striatum. Implanted DiO labeled progenitor cells were differentiated into astrocytes and GABAergic neurons. These results suggest that implanted progenitor cells can be differentiated into neurons in host... -
Effects of Dopamine and Haloperidol on Morphine-induced CREB and AP-1 DNA Binding Activities in Differentiated SH-SY5Y Human Neuroblastoma Cells
Soo-kyungKimGee-younKwon 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

AP-1 DNA binding activities, respectively. In the case of acute morphine treatment, the CREB and AP-1 DNA binding activities were shown to decrease in a time-dependent manner (30, 60, 90, and 120 min). Taken these together, in differentiated SH-SY5Y cells, morphine tolerance seems to involve simultaneous changes of the CREB and AP-1 DNA binding activities. Our data also suggest the possible involvement of haloperidol in prevention or reversal of morphine tolerance at the transcriptional level. -
Alterations in Serum BDNF and GDNF Levels after 12 Weeks of Antidepressant Treatment in Female Outpatients with Major Depressive Disorder
Young-Min Park, Bun-Hee Lee 대한신경정신의학회 Psychiatry Investigation 6 Pages

posttreatment HAMD-17 score of <7. Results_Among MDD patients, 19 (82.6%) subjects were in mild to moderate depression. The whole MDD patients had significantly higher serum BDNF and GDNF levels at baseline than those after 12 weeks of antidepressant treatment. The baseline serum BDNF and GDNF levels did not significantly between the remission and nonremission groups. The significant alteration in both BDNF and GDNF levels after antidepressant treatment were observed in patients with remission.... -

with an integrated support vector classification algorithm for the automated detection of cognitive capacity using resting state electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Methods_An eyes-closed resting EEG was recorded in 158 older subjects, and spectral EEG parameters in seven frequency bands, as well as functional brain network parameters were, calculated. In the feature extraction stage, the statistical power of the spectral and network parameters was calculated for the low-, moderate-, and...
