대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 4호 12 351-353 (3 pages)
using a test panel of four Caprinae species, Japanese serows (Capricornis crispus), Chinese gorals (Naemorhedus goral), Northern chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) and domestic goats (Capra hircus). In addition, all eleven microsatellites (SY3A, SY12A, SY12B, SY48, SY58, SY71, SY76, SY84, SY84B, SY112, and SY129) satisfied the criteria to be a core set of microsatellites. This core set of microsatellites and cross-species amplification of Korean goral microsatellites were found to be helpful for... -
Comparison of the age-related porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV) expression using duplex RT-PCR
Hyoung Joon Moon, Hye Kwon Kim, Seong Jun Park, Chul Seung Lee, Dae Sub Song, Bo Kyu Kang, Bong Kyun Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 4호 7 317-322 (6 pages)
Porcine endogenous retroviruses (PERVs) are members of family Retroviridae, genus Gamma retrovirus, and transmitted by both horizontally and vertically like other endogenous retroviruses (ERVs). PERV was initially described in the 1970s having inserted its gene in the host genome of different pig breeds, and three classes, PERV-A, PERV-B, and PERV-C are known. The therapeutic use of living cells, tissues, and organs from animals called xenotransplantation might relieve the limited supply of... -

with a panel of 21 microsatellite markers, and resolved through 6 per cent denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis followed by silver staining. The number of alleles ranged from 4 to 11, with allele sizes ranging from 88 to 220 bp. The distribution of allele frequencies was between 0.0104 and 0.5208. Polymorphism information content varied from 0.5563 to 0.8348. The population was not in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for all except two microsatellite loci (ILSTS044 and ILSTS060). The observed... -
Immunohistochemical study of galectin-3 in mature and immature bull testis and epididymis
Hwanglyong Kim, Meejung Ahn, Changjong Moon, Seungjoon Kim, Youngheun Jee, Hong-Gu Joo, Taekyun Shin* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 4호 1 339-344 (6 pages)
Galectin-3, a member of the b-galactoside-binding protein family, has been implicated in mammalian sperm maturation. We examined galectin-3 expression in the testis and epididymis of sexually mature and immature bulls. Western blot analysis showed varying levels of galectin-3 in the bull testis and epididymis, and galectin-3 immunoreactivity was higher in the mature testis and epididymis than in immature organs. Galectin-3 was primarily localized in interstitial cells of the immature bull testis... -
Use of flow cytometry to develop and characterize a set of monoclonal antibodies specific for rabbit leukocyte differentiation molecules
William C. Davis*, Mary Jo Hamilton 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 16 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 1호 8 51-66 (16 pages)
Flow cytometry was used to identify and characterize monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that react with rabbit leukocyte differentiation molecules (LDM). Screening sets of mAbs, developed against LDM in other species, for reactivity with rabbit LDM yielded 11 mAbs that recognize conserved epitopes on rabbit LDM orthologues and multiple mAbs that recognize epitopes expressed on the major histocompatibility class I or class II molecules. Screening of mAbs submitted to the Animal Homologues Section of... -
Development of a monoclonal antibody-based co-agglutination test to detect enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli isolated from diarrheic neonatal calves
Brajesh C. Varshney, N.M. Ponnanna, Pranati A. Sarkar, Pragna Rehman, Jigar H. Shah 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 1호 9 57-64 (8 pages)
Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains were collected from young diarrheic calves in farms and field. Strains that expressed the K99 (F5) antigen were identified by agglutination tests using reference antibodies to K99 antigen and electron microscopy. The K99 antigen from a selected field strain (SAR-14) was heat-extracted and fractionated on a Sepharose CL-4B column. Further purification was carried out by sodium deoxycholate treatment and/or ion-exchange chromatography. Monoclonal antibodies to... -

rapidly in preliminary experiments. The lung cells were pretreated with different metabolic inhibitors. Our results revealed that low temperature disturbed the uptake of magnetic nanoparticles into the cells. Metabolic inhibitors also prevented the delivery of the materials into cells. Use of TEM clearly demonstrated that uptake of the nanoparticles was mediated through endosomes. Taken together, our results demonstrate that magnetic nanoparticles can be internalized into the cells through an... -
Development of a Lightcycler-based reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction for the detection of foot-and-mouth disease virus
Jae Ku Oem, Soo Jeong Kye, Kwang Nyeong Lee, Yong Joo Kim, Jee Yong Park, Jong Hyeon Park, Yi Seok Joo, Hee Jong Song 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages

One step TaqMan real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (R/T RT-PCR)using a set of primers/probes was developed for the detection of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD)virus. The gene-specific probes labeled fluorogen for the internal ribosomal entry site, Leader sequence and 2B regions were used to detect FMD virus (FMDV). This assay specifically detected FMDV both in cell culture preparations and clinical samples, and was capable of distinguishing FMD from other viral diseases... -
Escherichia coli O157:H7 adherence to HEp-2 cells is implicated with curli expression and outer membrane integrity
Sang-Hyun Kim, Yong-Hwan Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 5 119-124 (6 pages)
Escherichia coli (E. coli) has ability to express thin aggregative fimbriae, known as curli, on the cell surface. Previously, a few example of curli expression in serogroup O157:H7 of enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) were reported, compared to other E. coli groups. However, significance of curliation in the EHEC pathobiology has not been described well in the literature. A highly curliated O157:H7 strain was used in this study in order to elucidate role of curliation in EHEC adherence to... -

Bovine mastitis is an infectious disease with a major economic influence on the dairy industry worldwide. Many factors such as environment, pathogen, and host affect susceptibility or resistance of an individual cow to bovine mastitis. Recently, there has been considerable interest in defining genetic and immunological markers that could be used to select for improved disease resistance. In this study we have analyzed the lymphocyte subpopulations of mastitis-resistant and susceptible cows using...
