of protein kinases. Recent studies have shown that Frk affects pancreatic beta cell number during embryogenesis and promotes beta cell cytotoxic signals in response to streptozotocin. To investigate the genetic association between FRK polymorphisms and the risk of obesity in Korean population, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the FRK gene region were selected and analyzed. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated, and biochemical data (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure,... -
Identification of Differentially Expressed Genes in Murine Hippocampus by Modulation of Nitric Oxide in Kainic Acid-induced Neurotoxic Animal Model

Kainic acid (KA) causes neurodegeneration, but no consensus has been reached concerning its mechanism. Nitric oxide may be a regulator of the mechanism. We identified differentially expressed genes in the hippocampus of mice treated with kainic acid, together with or without L-NAME, a nonselective nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, using a new differential display PCR method based on annealing control primers. Eight genes were identified, including clathrin light polypeptide, TATA element... -
A1 Receptor-mediated Protection against Amyloid Beta-induced Injury in Human Neuroglioma Cells

Adenosine has been reported to provide cytoprotection in the central nervous systems as well as myocardium by activating cell surface adenosine receptors. However, the exact target and mechanism of its action still remain controversial. The present study was performed to examine whether adenosine has a protective effect against Aβ-induced injury in neuroglial cells. The astrocyte-derived human neuroglioma cell line, A172 cells, and Aβ25∼35 were employed to produce an experimental Aβ-induced... -
Sweating by Exercise Controls Body Temperature through Increase of Interleukin-1beta

(SED) ran for 1 h at 70% of heart rate reserve (HRR). IL-1β gene and protein expressions were significantly higher in TR than those with SED at all 3 intervals examined independently. Significant increases in total sweat volume and oral temperature were observed after exercise in both groups, however, there were some differences between the groups. We conclude, therefore, that sweating due to exercise is associated with increase of IL-1β and it is correlated with decrease of oral temperature. -
Involvement of ERK1/2 and JNK Pathways in 17β-estradiol Induced Kir6.2 and SK2 Upregulation in Rat Osteoblast-like Cells
Jung-WookKim, Eun-KyoungYang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.4 6 199-206 (8 pages)
In addition, treatment of cells with U0126, a specific inhibitor of extracellular receptor kinases (ERK)1/2, and SP600125, a specific inhibitor of c-jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) blocked the enhancing effects of 17β-E2 on SK2 and Kir6.2 protein expressions. On the other hand, blocking of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase had no effect. Taken together, these results indicate that 17β-E2 modulates SK2 and Kir6.2 expressions through the estrogen receptor, involving ERK1/2 and JNK activations. -
Gene Expression Profile in Microglia following Ischemia- Reperfusion Injury
JuHyeonOh, HyungSooHan, JaeSikPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

Microglial activation is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of many brain disorders. Therefore, understanding the response of microglia to noxious stimuli may provide insights into their role in disorders such as stroke and neurodegeneration. Many genes involved in this response have been identified individually, but not systematically. In this regards, the microarray system permitted to screen a large number of genes in biological or pathological processes. Therefore, we used microarray... -
Gene Transfer of Cu/ZnSOD to Cerebral Vessels Prevents Subarachnoid Hemorrhage-induced Cerebral Vasospasm
MiRanYun, DongEunKim, HyeJinHeo, JiYoungPark, JiYoungLee, SunSikBae, ChiDaeKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.6 3 327-332 (6 pages)
The preventive effects of gene transfer of human copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/ZnSOD) on the development of cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) were examined using a rat model of SAH. An experimental SAH was produced by injecting autologous arterial blood twice into the cisterna magna, and the changes in the diameter of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) were measured. Rats subjected to SAH exhibited a decreased diameter with an increased wall thickness of MCA that were... -
Alteration of Immunoreactivity for SNARE Proteins in the Rat Hippocampus after Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion

factor attachment protein receptors (SNARE) proteins, composed of two presynaptic membrane proteins [synaptosomal-associated protein of 25 kDa (SNAP-25) and syntaxin] and a presynaptic vesicular protein [vesicle-associated membrane protein (VAMP)], serve as a core of exocytotic fusion machinery, which can be affected by ischemia. Synaptic protein in core region, striatum and cortex has been shown to alter after focal ischemia, however, little is known in hippocampus. Hippocampus is remote from... -

a central core of B cell mass and a peripheral boundary of A, D, and PP cells, double immunofluorescent staining with a panel of antibodies was performed to identify PLD2-immunoreactive cells in the islets PLD2 immunoreactivity was mainly present in A and PP cells of the rat pancreatic islets. And yet, in the guinea pig, PLD2 immunoreactivity was exclusively localized in A cells, and not in PP cells. These findings suggest a possibility that PLD2 is mainly located in A cells of rodent pancreatic... -
Correlation between mEPSC Amplitude and Rise Time upon the Blockade of AMPA Receptor Desensitization at Hippocampal Synapses

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 3 81-86 (6 pages)
Conventional views of synaptic transmission generally overlook the possibility of "postfusional- control" the regulation of the speed or completeness of transmitter release upon vesicular fusion. However, such regulation often occurs in non-neuronal cells where the dynamics of fusion-pore opening is critical for the speed of transmitter release. In case of synapses, the slower the transmitter release, the smaller the size and rate-of-rise of postsynaptic responses would be expected if...
