EunJiKim, DongKwanKim, ShinHyeKim, KyungMooLee, HyungSeoPark, SeHoonKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2011, Vol.15 No.6 15 431-436 (6 pages)
Vascular smooth muscle cells can obtain a proliferative function in environments such as atherosclerosis in vivo or primary culture in vitro. Proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells is accompanied by changes in ryanodine receptors (RyRs). In several studies, the cytosolic Ca2+ response to caffeine is decreased during smooth muscle cell culture. Although caffeine is commonly used to investigate RyR function because it is difficult to measure Ca2+ release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum... -

flavonoid glucoside extracted from Rumex Aquaticus Herba. We aimed to explore its protective effect against ethanol-induced cell damage and the mechanism involved in the effect in feline esophageal epithelial cells (EEC). Cell viability was tested and 2',7'-dichlorofluorescin diacetate assay was used to detect intracellular H2O2 production. Western blotting analysis was performed to investigate MAPK activation and interleukin 6 (IL-6) expression. Exposure of cells to 10% ethanol time-dependently... -

Calcineurin (CaN) is activated in diabetes and plays a role in glomerular hypertrophy and extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation. Here, kidneys from diabetic model mice were investigated for the expression of the regulator of CaN 1 (RCAN1) isoform 4 (RCAN1.4) which had been shown to be transcriptionally upregulated by CaN activation. We found the increased immunoreactivity for RCAN1 in the glomerular cells of db/db mice and streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. In concordance, the expression of... -
Altered Regulation of Renal Nitric Oxide and Atrial Natriuretic Peptide Systems in Lipopolysaccharide-induced Kidney Injury

Nitric oxide (NO) and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) may induce vascular relaxation by increasing the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), an important mediator of vascular tone during sepsis. This study aimed to determine whether regulation of NO and the ANP system is altered in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced kidney injury. LPS (10 mgㆍkg−1) was injected in the tail veins of male Sprague-Dawley rats; 12 hours later, the kidneys were removed. Protein expression of NO... -
The Protective Effect of Epigallocatechin-3 Gallate on Ischemia/ Reperfusion Injury in Isolated Rat Hearts: An ex vivo Approach
ChengShiPiao, Do-SungKim, Ki-ChanHa, Hyung-RyongKim, Han-JungChae, Soo-WanChae 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2011, Vol.15 No.5 2 259-266 (8 pages)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the preventive role of epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG, a derivative of green tea) in ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury of isolated rat hearts. It has been suggested that EGCG has beneficial health effects, including prevention of cancer and heart disease, and it is also a potent antioxidant. Rat hearts were subjected to 20 min of normoxia, 20 min of zero-flow ischemia and then 50 min of reperfusion. EGCG was perfused 10 min before ischemia and during the... -

reproduced in computer simulation. The model study suggests that the relative contribution of L-type Ca2+ channel to total transsarcolemmal Ca2+ flux could determine whether the cytosolic Ca2+ transients become bigger or smaller with higher stimulus frequency. The present study also suggests that cytosolic Ca2+ affects mitochondrial Ca2+ in a beat-to-beat manner, however, removal of Ca2+ influx mechanism into mitochondria does not affect the amplitude of cytosolic Ca2+ transients. -
Thrombin-induced Migration and Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 Expression Are Regulated by MAPK and PI3K Pathways in C6 Glioma Cells
JiyoungKim, Jae-WonLee, Song-InKim, Yong-JoonChoi, Won-KiLee, Myung-JaJeong, Sang-HoonCha, HeeJaeLee, WanjooChun, Sung-SooKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

Glioblastoma multiforme is one of the most common and aggressive tumors in central nervous system. It often possesses characteristic necrotic lesions with hemorrhages, which increase the chances of exposure to thrombin. Thrombin has been known as a regulator of MMP-9 expression and cancer cell migration. However, the effects of thrombin on glioma cells have not been clearly understood. In the present study, influences of thrombin on glioma cell migration were examined using Boyden chamber... -
Myoplasmic [Ca2+], Crossbridge Phosphorylation and Latch in Rabbit Bladder Smooth Muscle

Tonic smooth muscle exhibit the latch phenomenon: high force at low myosin regulatory light chains (MRLC) phosphorylation, shortening velocity (Vo), and energy consumption. However, the kinetics of MRLC phosphorylation and cellular activation in phasic smooth muscle are unknown. The present study was to determine whether Ca2+-stimulated MRLC phosphorylation could suffice to explain the agonist- or high K+-induced contraction in a fast, phasic smooth muscle. We measured myoplasmic [Ca2+], MRLC... -

Neurofibrillary tangle (NFT) is a characteristic hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. GSK3Ղ has been reported to play a major role in the NFT formation of tau. Dysfunction of autophagy might facilitate the aggregate formation of tau. The present study examined the role of GSK3Ղ-mediated phosphorylation of tau species on their autophagic degradation. We transfected wild type tau (T4), caspase-3-cleaved tau at Asp421 (T4C3), or pseudophosphorylated tau at Ser396/Ser404 (T4-2EC) in the... -
HO-1 Induced by Cilostazol Protects Against TNF-α-associated Cytotoxicity via a PPAR-γ-dependent Pathway in Human Endothelial Cells

A large body of evidence has indicated that induction of endogenous antioxidative proteins seems to be a reasonable strategy for delaying the progression of cell injury. In our previous study, cilostazol was found to increase the expression of the antioxidant enzyme heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in synovial cells. Thus, the present study was undertaken to examine whether cilostazol is able to counteract tumor necrosis factor-Ձ (TNF-Ձ)-induced cell death in endothelial cells via the...
