Waste coffee grounds-derived nanoporous carbon nanosheets for supercapacitors
Min Hong Park, Young Soo Yun, Se Youn Cho, Na Rae Kim, Hyoung-Joon Jin 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 8 66-71 (6 pages)
such as high specific surface area (1960.1 m2 g?1), numerous redox-active heteroatoms (16.1 at% oxygen, 2.7 at% nitrogen, and 1.6 at% sulfur), and high aspect ratios (>100). These unique properties led to good electrochemical performance as supercapacitor electrodes. A specific capacitance of ~438.5 F g?1 was achieved at a scan rate of 2 mV s?1, and a capacitance of 176 F g?1 was maintained at a fast scan rate of 100 mV s?1. Furthermore, cyclic stability was achieved for over 2000 cycles. -
Effects of electrochemical oxidation of carbon fibers on interfacial shear strength using a micro-bond method
Dong-Kyu Kim, Kay-Hyeok An, Yun Hyuk Bang, Lee-Ku Kwac, Sang-Yub Oh, Byung-Joo Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 4 32-39 (8 pages)
In this work, we studied the effects of electrochemical oxidation treatments of carbon fibers (CFs) on interfacial adhesion between CF and epoxy resin with various current densities. The surface morphologies and properties of the CFs before and after electrochemical-oxidation-treatment were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and single-fiber contact angle. The... -
Photocatalytic degradation and antibacterial investigation of nano synthesized Ag₃VO₄ particles @PAN nanofibers
Prem Singh Saud, Zafar Khan Ghouri, Bishweshwar Pant, Taehee An, Joong Hee Lee, Mira Park, Hak-Yong Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 5 30-36 (7 pages)
obtained material is PAN nanofibers decorated by Ag₃VO₄ nanoparticles. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue investigated in an aqueous solution under irradiation showed 99% degradation of the dye within 75 min. Finally, the antibacterial performance of Ag₃VO₄ nanoparticles @PAN composite nanofibers was experimentally verified by the destruction of Escherichia coli. These results suggest that the developed inexpensive and functional nanomaterials can serve as a non-precious catalyst f... -

One-step synthesis of dual-transition metal substitution on ionic liquid based N-doped mesoporous carbon for oxygen reduction reaction
Ulziidelger Byambasuren, Yukwon Jeon, Dorjgotov Altansukh, Yunseong Ji, Yong-Gun Shul 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 12 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 8 53-64 (12 pages)
Nitrogen (N)-doped ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) with a dual transition metal system were synthesized as non-Pt catalysts for the ORR. The highly nitrogen doped OMCs were prepared by the precursor of ionic liquid (3-methyl-1-butylpyridine dicyanamide) for N/C species and a mesoporous silica template for the physical structure. Mostly, N-doped carbons are promoted by a single transition metal to improve catalytic activity for ORR in PEMFCs. In this study, our N-doped mesoporous carbons were... -
A review: methane capture by nanoporous carbon materials for automobiles
Pil-Seon Choi, Ji-Moon Jeong, Yong-Ki Choi, Myung-Seok Kim, Gi-Joo Shin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 3 18-28 (11 pages)
Global warming is considered one of the great challenges of the twenty-first century. In order to reduce the ever-increasing amount of methane (CH4) released into the atmosphere, and thus its impact on global climate change, CH4 storage technologies are attracting significant research interest. CH4 storage processes are attracting technological interest, and methane is being applied as an alternative fuel for vehicles. CH4 storage involves many technologies, among which, adsorption processes... -
Advances in liquid crystalline nano-carbon materials: preparation of nano-carbon based lyotropic liquid crystal and their fabrication of nano-carbon fibers with liquid crystalline spinning
Yong-Mun Choi, in Jung Jun Yeon, Hwang Seung Min, Kim Hyeonsu Jeong, Bon-Cheol Ku, Munju Goh 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.4 1 223-232 (10 pages)
This review presents current progress in the preparation methods of liquid crystalline nanocarbon materials and the liquid crystalline spinning method for producing nano-carbon fibers. In particular, we focus on the fabrication of liquid crystalline carbon nanotubes by spinning from superacids, and the continuous production of macroscopic fiber from liquid crystalline graphene oxide. -
Effects of cross-linking methods for polyethylene-based carbon fibers: review
Kwan-Woo Kim, Hye-Min Lee, Jeong-Hun An, Byoung-Suhk Kim, Byung-Gak Min, Shin-Jae Kang, Kay-Hyeok An, Byung-Joo Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 24 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 2 147-170 (24 pages)
In recent decades, there has been an increasing interest in the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in aerospace, renewable energy and other industries, due to its low weight and relatively good mechanical properties compared with traditional metals. However, due to the high cost of petroleum-based precursors and their associated processing costs, CF remains a specialty product and as such has been limited to use in high-end aerospace, sporting goods, automotive, and specialist... -
Preparation and characterization of carbon fiber-reinforced thermosetting composites: a review
Fan-Long Jin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 1 67-77 (11 pages)
Carbon fibers (CFs) have a unique combination of properties which allow them to be widely used as reinforcing materials in advanced polymer composites. The mechanical properties of CF-reinforced polymer composites are governed mainly by the quality of interfacial adhesion between the CFs and the polymer matrix. Surface treatments of CFs are generally carried out to introduce chemical functional groups on the fiber surfaces, which provide the ability to control the surface characteristics of CFs....
